If you disagree with someone's opinions on OCUK/Internet...

What's the point in being racist anyway, it's not like humans started off as different races in the first place.

Anyway, forums are a school yard, people will only speak out in bandwagons especially at obvious lesser individuals who are easily made fun of.

But the main reason is anonymity, a username without a physical face - putting someone up to their claims is fine and a good debate is awesome but people just don't feel the need to justify because it's the internet and whatever is written will be read by many but rarely will the responses affect the poster because there's no face to face connection with both sides.

Petty arguments will never get resolved often one side going off in a huffy puff saying "well it's clear you don't understand, you troll etc etc" whereas a decent debate between decent people can carry on far longer and rationally - all without a face to face connection!

If that made sense to anyone else then that's how I see it having browsed many forums of all kinds and various forums I continue to browse today.

I do find that some members will pick up on a counter opinion and drag it out or purposely force an argument, requiring a water tight argument or proof to even suggest an acceptance let alone a change of heart. Others seem intent on making their specific opinions known again and again, at every possible opportunity just to make sure everyone knows. This irritates me.

I don't get drawn into anything or start anything purely because it's a futile gesture.

Nothing wrong with a good old forum chinwag!

I've been looking forward to getting back on here, on some other forums you simply have to disagree with someone to be labled a troll.

... good to be back \o/

I think I exhausted my OCUK deep opinions on CBS and VIRII!

But seriously, I realised a couple of things 1) it makes no difference and 2) I really don't care for narrow minded opinions on subjects people have no knowledge on.

However, it does make good practice for communication skills - ya get me blad?

If I was to meet some of the people that post the comments on here I would feel like I wanted to punch them in the face lots of times because the comments are so immature and stupid. ;)

LOL. As I was writing my comment I was actually thinking the same thing but I thought clonking someone was not very articulate of me.

How is that racism? felt like I was in Pakistan. Probably did. Some parts of Bristol are the same you can walk through them and forget you are in England.

To say you 'forget you are in England' even figuratively provokes others (such as myself) who is not only from birmingham, but also attended a school with people of many races. I never once 'forgot' i was in England, most of the time it never occurred to me to think of my contemporaries as anything but british, regardless of race.

The only way someone could 'forget' they were in England were if they were from a particularly white area or, a small rural village. I aint tryin to start a fight or derail the thread, just calling it as i see it.

It does make me wonder if people down the costa del sol 'forget' they are in spain ;)

I'm not racist but I do look at people from other races differently for some reason.

Like if your walking down the street and you see a muslim man walking towards you, I tend to think " do I look at him or do I just look away and ignore him? Maybe he will think i'm racist if I look at him the wrong way "

I do have some Asian friends who I treat as I do people of my own culture though and don't think twice about it.

But going out of your way to be nice to a person from another culture/race where you wouldn't to your own can be deemed racist to?

Great minds think alike, I wasn't going to post it but I thought ah what the heck so I just posted it.

It's true though, people hide behind the screen and after seeing what people look like I don't no how the heck they dare post the comments they do.

Most people that post the comments you definatly would not think that they would look the way they do.

I try not to get too involved on here although I've debated a fair few topics, some more emotive than others and would generally hesitate to call other members racist/sexist/homophobic/insert term here without good reason. I usually resort to either logic or flippancy to attempt to point out what I view as the flaw in their position but realistically I'm not egotistical enough to think I'm likely to change their mind on a position so there is little point in me investing too much in the issue.

I tend not to get involved in the 'serious' arguments because I find my views are generally in the minority, i.e. I'm a guardian-reading liberal  and there are always twenty people to shoot-down the liberals for every one that agrees (or so it seems).

The mild irony being that the more right wing members of the forum have been known to declare it a liberal paradise (or words to that effect) so I suppose it depends on your point of view how it comes across.

Welcome back, I did wonder whether we'd be seeing you back. :)

Wondered what had happened to you. I won't bother asking as I'm sure the answer's a moderators' secret or something.:p

No I don't put my faith toward any religion?

In general many people are racist because they have don't like another person of another race purely because they are another race little realising that humans were originally one colour anyway....that was my point.
