If you don't have Facebook you don't exist... virtually

I am incredibly anti social media at the moment - and for someone who works in marketing, that isn't agood thing :/

I've stopped posting on FB as I realised that people couldn't really give a **** if I was at the Drs/dentist etc.

I use FB to keep in contact with friends and family overseas.. share photos, create events and chat to people.

BB x

These are my thoughts exactly, when people 'like' your status they don't really care. It's pointless

This is what any person who has common sense does really though, everyone else uses it as an Instant and Moment style wag pad.

I still don't understand what "XYZ has poked you" is supposed to mean. If you have something to say, say it?

Ive just deleted my account aswell, well it takes 14 days for it to go. I just never needed it, I just joined cause other people were on it from my last job. But I seen them nearly everyday so it didn't make sense:p
Now im at a different job haven't seen them for 7 months and I don't post to them as ive moved on. I haven't got friends or family that live 100's of miles away, and if I did I rather pickup the phone.

2 days left for mine to go! Forgotten I had it save for these threads.

if someone updates every few days, you can stop it showing up, except for the most important updates. I can't see why anyone would have a problem with it.

And how does Facebook decide what classes as "important"? (Serious question, I haven't looked into it) I was under the impression if I selected to hide someone I would just never see any updates from them ever again (not a bad thing in many cases, but still)

I especially like it when someone posts something that's clearly not a positive thing and yet people still ritually click like:

Tom Smith:
My dog just died, RIP fido
Trendy McCool and 14 others like this

So basically the thing you guys dislike is not Facebook itself, it's the people you have within your friend circle and the drivel they come out with.

Theophany will have something different to say about that :o

Poking is my passive aggressive way of informing other Facebookers that I have considered having relationships of a sexual nature with them.

The TV incites it. "Send us your views/photos through Facebook and Twitter" Everyone has to be heard and broadcast now even if you're not on it. Just about every programme, sports and so on. It's going to be social media/trivia TV soon.

Facebook is awesome, just set it so none of your friends rubbish appears on your news feed, like a ton of pages for hot models, and use it as a way to communicate with people via inbox. It's like MSN with an awesome feed of pictures. It is possible to use it and not be a moron, just don't fall into that trap where you sit in a restaurant taking a picture of your food to put on your 'wall' etc.

God I hate those people so so so much.

I was just about to post something similar. I had a Facebook account years ago, and gradually everyone from work found their way onto it, some people got into trouble for various Facebook mishaps at work or putting stuff on there that they shouldn't, so I closed mine down.

However, I missed communicating with those people who I don't see all that often. People I have met in Le Mans, who live in Europe etc. I also found out during this closure, it costs 18p a text to Belgium!!

Yes I could text / email them, but I just found Facebook an easier way to "socialise" with these people, so about 6 months ago, I opened a new account, and just added a few proper friends and two or three work people who I have known for donkeys anyway.

Now its much better! We have already organised next years Le Mans trips on there, along with a few other Motorsport related adventures.

In terms of privacy, what few pictures I do have on there are set to "Me Only" in the settings, so only I can see them. Likewise with friends list and anything else. When viewing my profile as Public, all you can see is my profile picture, which is Le Mans related anyway.

Its very easy via all the settings to chose what people see and what they don't see, so I don't really understand the problem.

I also work permanent nights, so don't always manage to find the time to catch up with people as much as I would like, so FB helps sometimes!

Its a bloody good tool when used properly :)

No don't do it.
You know that one of them will post a picture of their food in a restaurant or give you an update of what their baby has just done.
Please use the better method of 18p texts or email.
You know it makes sense.

(This has been a post for those idiots who don't know how to use it)

They just keep bleating on & on when all they have to do is make a few clicks to make it work how they want but would prefer to tell the world "I deleted Facebook because .......".
Even my 79 year old Dad has worked out how to use it.

Ok fair enough, personally don't know anyone like that. But I have deleted my account and I know how to use it properly. I just don't need it in my life, but I can see why others cant do without it.

As said that on its own isnt an issue, its these annoying threads which are, which ppop up at least once a month. Plenty of people in them and of course the op.
Dont want to use it fine, but why keep making ppthreads complaining about what comes down to disliking the people you have accepted as friends.

The level of incompetency shown by people on a tech based forum when it comes to Facebook never ceases to amaze me.

"i've never used it but it's ****" - 10/10 post
"it's full of idiots and people who post mundane ****" - 10/10 post

Thats the majority of social media. You respond like it doesn't happen. Those who use it properly are a minority. They are trivial platforms that thrive on it.
