If you found £200...

Let fate decide.

Buy 200 lottery tickets. So much goes to charity, so your conscience is clear. Odds are you will win some back, keep that and say it was 'fate'.;)

Put it towards my ridiculous car insurance premium.

Also thought about 200 lottery tickets but I see that's been mentioned below!

And what exactly would you do with it? Couldnt pay it in to your bank without being flagged and I wouldnt fancy leaving it lying round the house

£100K in £20s isn't really that bulky, you could easily secrete it in your home without a worry. Anyway, what's wrong with opening a few new bank accounts with it, you don't have to stick it all in one.

I would feel bad about keeping it, but worst than that I'd get paranoied thinking that it was a trap by some kind of pseudo english mafia and be looking over my shoulder for a couple of weeks after finding it :o

Did you say you found it on a cash machine? There is probably CCTV of whoever left it and you taking it...

Who mentioned a cash machine?

Yeah, because the Mafia, and criminal gangs in general, are always leaving £200 lying on the floor to trap people.

Well, i found it sat on top of the ATM shelf thing with no one around.. if i give it in to police dont i get to keep it if no one comes forward within a set amount of time anyway?

was this inside the bank?

Give it to the police & notify the bank.

If no one claims it after a few months you get it back AFAIK

if it was money someone was due to pay in - forgot to stick the envelope in the chute & left it on top of the adjacent ATM or something - then chances are the bank will be their first port of call

either way its not your money (yet) - at least hand it into the police for the required time period - I'd say someone would have to be quite specific about where they lost it etc.. in order to claim.

You'd have to open something like 11 accounts or more to prevent it being individually flagged by the bank and I think that'd probably cause you more problems than depositing it in one! :p
