I'm considering VR

Just make sure the area is clear, and you have plenty of room. I've had great fun bashing the touch controllers into the sloping ceiling of my attic playing Robo Recall and Lone Echo.

Hey me too! My room's ceiling is 2m high and it's always a shock clipping the ceiling. Controllers are fine though :)

When are gen 2 of the vive and rift due? Wondering whether to get on board or wait. I don't get a great deal of time for games so waiting 6 months or more (nintendo switch in hand) wouldn't be a big deal.

There's nothing announced AFAIK.
Aside from using trickery like foveated rendering, I suspect there isn't anything in the pipeline from the big two because it'd significantly raise the minimum hardware requirements, along with the price of the headsets, which would make the whole thing an even more expensive proposition.
Not ideal when they're trying to get as many users on board as they can in a fairly young market.

I've installed Robo Recall.

Oh My God, I can see what the fuss is about. It's something else. The next gen of this is going to be utterly incredible, as I'm sure the headset will probably end up being like a set of wrap around sunglasses and the resolution will be improved, too.

There's no way I'm returning this, even the wife is impressed and she hates everything gaming related. :p

Delighted that you took the chance and it has worked out for you.

I can't wait to hear your reactions when you try a driving game or when you first start Elite Dangerous :)

Robo Recall is incredible!! Hard to play when sitting down though :p Lone Echo should be on your list of must have games.

Now you can see why watching videos and reading about VR doesn't come close to the actual experience of it.

Just want to add, download oculus tray tool as soon as possible and set it up.

Run super sampling at 1.8 or even 2, really helps with the picture quality.

@melmac cheers.

What games would you recommend for sitting down? Also, can I buy these games from Steam?

Edit: Also, what is the official download for the tray tool?

Oculus Tray Tool: https://forums.oculus.com/community...ng-profiles-hmd-disconnect-fixes-hopefully/p1

(0.70.1 may work best for now, 0.80.x is a bit of an overhaul and while improving, it's also got bugs)

SteamVR games for me work best as long as I bypass steamvr itself. The system just doesn't like running both Oculus Home and Steam VR and the game, my performance went down a fair bit ... so start them directly from Steam (peek through the nose gap).

Just remember to do the steamVR room setup too :)
Click the VR button at the top right of the main window on steam and then click the dropdown list on this when it pops up.

Others have already answered these questions :) Yeah you can buy from Steam, I just buy from whichever store has the cheapest version of the game. I have spent so much time and money in getting my VR room setup that I am completely broke, so it's sales all the way for the next few months :p

What games would I recommend? Hmmm, I have pretty much enjoyed every game that I have tried. VR brings a whole new dimension to games, so games that you normally wouldn't play in normal mode become a whole different experience in VR.

Some games require you to have a strong stomach. Work on building up your tolerance or else some VR games will become a vomit inducing nightmare. The trick is to stop playing once you feel any kind of Nausea, don't try and fight through it. Eventually you will be able to play for longer and longer.

Here are some of sitting games that most people like
Alien Isolation VR
Blaze Rush
Land Fall
Chronos
I Expect you to die.
Sub Nautica

If you like Flight Sims, there is loads to choose and they work really well in VR.
If you like Driving games. Dirt Rally, assetto corsa and project cars 1+2 get well reviewed.
Elite Dangerous, if you like it, you probably have it already, if you don't, then it's probably not worth getting just for VR.

And I know this isn't a sitting down game and not sure if you like sport at all, but, Eleven Table tennis is well worth the cash. Even if you don't play it in real life. It's just so amazing as an experience.
One other thing to mention is The Lab, it's a free experience on Steam, it's not sit down but it's well worth checking out.

The Blu
Mission ISS
Ocean Rift
Apollo 11
Google Earth
Dear Angela
Face your Fears

Are also great experiences.
