iMac

Sorry mate can't explain that! Not sync'd it up to my phone yet!

The whole thing just doesn't seem very IMAP. The folders don't update properly. Do me a favour. Send yourself an email so it's sat in your INBOX. Then delete it via the web interface. It should then disappear from mail.app, but it doesn't. Even if you change folder and go back it still doesn't. Pressing 'Get Mail' is the only way to make it sync.

Can imac owners of the 20" and 24" please tell me the size (dimensions) of the box it ships with? I am asking this because I have a friend who will be comming to the UK, from the US and im thinking of having him buy one for me before he goes back to UK ;p

Big. There, of help as always :p

Seriously though, they aint small.

No point asking for a 24" iMac hidden in the suit case, you'll be hit by the Tax people at the Airport, it's too big. Not like the MB or MBP. 20" is still fair bit big too... hard to conjure up an excuse not to be taxed - no?

ill let him play with the imac.. ill let him install loads of stuff to it and fill up the hard drive.
but im more concerned of its "transportability".. i dont want him or the package to arrive battered

The package mine came in was very well packed. Couldn't see it getting damaged unless they were purposely trying to break it! It was all packed tight and didn't feel it was going to move around...

ok I'll be ordering one on Monday, and ill be getting it from UK. I didnt know they did student discount so ill be getting one from apple UK.

just a few questions.. can I install windows vista ultimate 64bit like a "dual boot"?
If yes how will this be managed by my hard drive? will the HDD be split 50-50 for windows and leopard? im thinking that 320gb may not be enough

Pretty sure 64 bit Vista is supported on Bootcamp.

In the BootCamp tool (the thing that allows you to install Windows) it prompts you to allocate disk space to Windows and to OS X before installing Windows.

You get a nice little slider and can give Windows 300gb and OS X 20gb if you wish - and so on. Easy.

thanks for the reply mate.. another question
if I save documents using vista (say I did a powerpoint presentation and saved it under documents) will I be able to access this file when im on osx? also for music/video?

Yes you will be able to do that too.

OS X can read NTFS so you can just click on the partition and go through the folders until you reach your destination.

With the help of MacDrive (A separate pay-for software), you can also do this in Windows (i.e look through your OS X documents).

some more questions.. (sorry i really wana buy the right one for me)

I can get the 20" 2.4GHz 500GB HDD for £9xx.
I can get the 24" 2.8GHz (extreme) 500GB HDD for £12xx.

Is it justifiable to pay £338.4 for the extra 4" and extreme processor?

Do you want a bigger screen?
Do you game?
If you game, the 20" is better with the same GPU. (the higher range ones 2600pro?)

Otherwise, the extra processor power is more useful for people working with big big files and / converting video / audio formats.
