It doesn't. But i'm entitled to my opinion, just like the G80 crew are entitled to their view that i'm talking nonsense.

I believe the card is a waste, and i'd deter anybody with an X1800 or higher from upgrading to one, and even then i'd only recommend the GTS - after all it does give performance better than the 7950GX2 for the same price.

If you don't like it, add me to ignore, i'm certainly not fussed.

I was more making the point that ATM I kinda agree that quad core is pointless (gaming wise) at this period in time. Dual cores came out what feels like 2years ago and I have only just recently got one, being a gamer did I miss out not having a dual core for 2years????...not at all. All my cash went to the GPU.

I see what you are saying about lots of units though and I am glad that finally another core will come in useful. So me thinks keep upgrading my GPU's over the next 2 years but only get quad core when it really makes a difference to the games I play .

ps where could I get hold of that beta also I would like to see whether the stutter could be more to do with the fact it is beta. I remember 'TIMESHIFT' running rubbish on absolutely top end rigs, getting like 100FPS but stuttering and jerking like mad.

TUTU) having a go at Easyrider would send the email...ANYONE on this forum (ie TUTE), if offered a free 8800gtx WOULD accept. I'd see it as a free £500.

What I spent that on is up to me.

If I want the best "bang for buck" card, then that's my choice.

Even at a push, i'd take 2 7900GTOs. Still save myself £150.

What's so frustrating for me is i'm trying to understand why people pay what they do for this card. Take this for an example.

OcUK MSI GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Pop two of these in an SLi board, and clock them to GTX. As shown in the Anandtech benchmarks, this gives you pretty much identical performance as the 8800GTX. But it saves the buyer £160.

Even if you went Crossfire, which appears to be slightly faster than the two GTO's.

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Plucked from the clearance section, at £205 each, it still saves you £90. Not as impressive a saving as the GTO's, but as I said, according to benchmarks the Crossfire setup seems to lead.

I admit, i've had an awful week, but you have to admit, I do have a point here? The bleeding edge of performance is with 2 8800GTX's in SLi. But, if you're not going with two of them, then Crossfire with two X1950XTX's is the next fastest (although they are still overpriced compared to the X1900's).

I'm assuming also that Quad SLi doesn't work with the GX2.

Agreed, my x1800 XT cuts through everying maxed at 1280x1024, but thats 1280x1024, it can handle that, but the higher WS resolutions etc... it just won't cut the mustard, which the 8800 GTX will cut through with ease.

Fair enough if like me you game at 1280x1024, then there is no need to upgrade from the x1800/7900's/x1900's etc... as they all cut through that res with ease as said, but if your using the higher WS resolutions etc... then obviously you would need to upgrade.
