Saying stupid things
He wasnt wrong though was he about the deadly part. Its not just boomers but the older generation do have an idea of what a garden should be and they will use chemicals to achieve it, just like the younger generations have an idea and will use plastic grass to achieve it. In the end both produce a sterile garden to the detriment of all.

I think the environment and how people effect it is everyone's business, no?

Not that I ave a leg to stand on. I wanted astroturf in our garden but having a partner who works for the environment agency meant that discussion was always going to go one way.

Just pick the weeds by hand and stop killing everything?
Practical if you're retired, unemployed or can afford a gardener. But I'm guessing the majority of people would rather spray some weedkiller, then spend very little time removing the dead weeds in a week or two's time, allowing you to spend time enjoying the garden, and doing more useful tasks

As for the environmental aspect, using weedkiller and caring about the environment aren't mutually exclusive.

This year I've recycled a load of old pallets into some vegetable boxes so I can grow my own vegetables, built a compost bin (again from recycled wood, and to enable me to reduce my household waste and turn it into something useful), and have planted a variety of flowers and plants to attract pollinators.

I didn't suggest it was. I care about the environment but I drive a petrol car. I don't really like perfectly manicured gardens as I don't believe they offer much biodiversity but as I said, I was trying to get a false lawn put down so I'm not casting my judgement net, not yet anyway.

The majority of people would choose to do the easy thing of course, luckily it looks like those in a position to ban such products will utilise those powers and in the mean time we are seeing local authorities move away from it anyway. I'm sure the cries of nanny stateism will come swiftly behind.

Might be easier to just concrete my garden and not bother trying to do my bit then :)
