Images of items I have purchased (except trainers [no feet pics])

Bought myself a new toy to play with :D

What plug is that? I'm looking for some that do power monitoring (preferably Zigbee but I have an isolated VLAN for wifi stuff.) Was gonna buy from IKEA but their power monitoring plug is always out of stock :(
It's one of Aliexpress "Tuya Zigbee Smart Socket UK Plug 20A"

One of those push up thingamajigs. Don't know if they work or if they're just a gimmick, but for less than a fiver from AliExpress it was worth a punt.

Can you explain how they work please? They look interesting. I can make out the handle but can’t figure out what the colours are for.

Seen a fair few ads for these, whats the build quality like?
As you'd expect, it's plastic. But it doesn't feel flimsy enough to break when you're using it.
Looks like Twister for toddlers
:D :D :D

You slot the handles into the different coloured holes. Each colour is supposedly tailored to work a different muscle group.

How are you liking it? I've had mine for 6 months and I'm still in love, everything looks glorious!
Looking good so far. Apart from it looks like it curves backwards due to me being so used to a curved UW

But I had very little time to test it last night by the time I set it up and packed away the old monitor back in it box and put in the loft

Had a few problems with the camera due to my TV being so flush to the wall, so gave up with it, and it's going back to Amazon.
Might give the Govee envisual a go or just get a sync box of some description.

Someone in the 3d printing forum made me a bracket. Not sure why closeness to wall would stop the camera?

How are you finding these?

Do you have more or are these your first?

I've been avoiding the home automation thing for far too long but should probably start getting involved. Not sure I trust AliExpress stuff with mains power tbh. I am rather fond of my home in the not-burned-down state it's currently in.

Wouldn't even know where to start tbh.

The key is not joining some random specific ecosystem that looks you in. Tuya is essentially a platform that any cheapie or frankly, expensive "smart device" manufacturer can use instead of building their own crappy app. So it is pretty good and allows you to buy cheaper stuff without being imprisoned by their crappy apps.

My split AC and kitchen plinth heater are both on Tuya and it's pretty easy to add to it.

For plugs tho I'm TP Link all the way. It's a separate app to Tuya and a closed ecosystem but they've got enough going on it should stand the test of time. You can buy it pretty cheap from Amazon so at least there is some recourse if your house burnt down. I have regular smart plugs and ones with energy monitoring, and a bunch of cameras I use for the kids cot cams instead of dedicated baby cams.

For lights and bulbs I'm still a Hue fan as it has a dedicated local box, so when the internet goes down you don't lose all your smart features (Tapo is pretty hit and miss without internet, Tuya just doesn't work without internet AFAIK). Hue also does plugs which is useful as the ecosystem has the best motion sensors and switches.

All three Hue, Tuya and Tapo can connect to Home Assistant which is a great aggregation platform so you can have a single app that sits over everything, either running on a dedicated RaspPi or just on your PC.

TBH my entire goal with Home Assistant is to be internet free, so that's an option too. Just use ZigBee instead of the controllers.
