Radio Scanner. It's been a while since I dipped my toes in this. A lot of services have gone encrypted, but still fun. The free PC software available has made programming and labeling of known frequencies easy and fast.
Going to replace the aerial for a higher gain one next week.
I'm thinking about doing this too for my scanner. Are you building your own aerial or purchasing? I get reception for EGLL where I am, but I have to be by the windows.

I paid $129 for them, and the lack of wire between them was one of the selling points for me.
Unless you're careless and don't put them back in the case after using them why would they get lost?
