As a desktop replacement? Okay not the most mobile of things but you can take it with you and using a 17" screen when deskbound is great.

I've never understood this. Laptops are designed to be portable. If you need a bigger screen then buy an external monitor for it and then use the laptop around and on the move when needed. Having a laptop with a "big" screen (17" really isn't big these days) seems like you're not getting the benefit of a laptop or a larger screen and paying a premium for it :p

Suppose with retina screens nowadays and destops bigger then its not so important.

My last 17" laptop was when most people only had 22" screens max on their desktop.

New toy

13" RMBP
i5 2.7ghz
16gb RAM
256gb storage

Just run black magic disk speed thingy, getting between 1200/1300mb/s [/QUOTE]

Very similar spec as my lenovo above but i guess that thing cost you twice as much!

Self confessed apple hater, so my opinion is very biased to not understand why anyone buys apple :p

Yeah the scaling is interesting, I've got it on the default for now, I like Apples window management and exposé so its easy enough to flick between windows.

I like the OS and their products, quite simply. :)

Looks like your laptop costs just as much, has half the RAM and specing on their site is likely not to have the PCIE SSD? Also subjectively (but I am right here) doesn't look as good.

FWIW I paid £1150 through EU discount. Full price would've been around £1600.

Didn't cost anywhere near what's advertised on the website (£712 actually!). Personal preference on looks i guess, personally i don't like the look of the macbooks, the os or their touchpads.

Differing personal preferences is what drives companies to make different products, it'd be boring if all of them were the same.

I'm happy with my purchase, MrBios is happy with his, that's all that matters :) - lets not turn it into an Apple V the world debate. :D

Apple touchpads smash any lenovo one all damn day. I have had many of the lenovos at work and some downright suck while others are just no where near as good.

The last generation of lenovo touchpads were AWFUL, I'm so glad they're going back to the older style. It's the generation ending in 40 such as the 540, 440 etc. that are the worst touchpads ever created. Infact i reckon someone at lenovo thought it up after having part of their brain removed.

Got some refurbished T420s at work the other day....proper buttons! ah how i miss those. Flat touchpad that doesn't click, two full buttons underneath and two full buttons above to use with the nubben. Lovely to use.

Oh of course, i was only teasing because i dislike apple so much (Which i pointed out clearly to show that i was teasing) wasn't looking to stir anything :)

Hmmm I keep meaning to pick up a T420 before they get too old. They were fantastic work machines.

Got a pair of raised beds, pictures pending but I also got a sledgehammer to help smash in the stakes:

3kg head, metre long "genuine hickory" arm. Needless to say, I had a smashing good time.
