Heated blanket, hell yeah.

£50 from Sainsbury's. Pros: it's lush. Cons: could do with a timer, and the connection plug is for some retarded reason on the top of the sheet as opposed to the side. We use a mattress topper so this isn't a huge problem, but before we put the topper on, my elbows were resting on the plug and it was annoying.

Don't you ever use that word again.

It looks like it could be a pain to clean..

I have a juicer, it is amazing at what it does but the blade is a PITA to clean. Specifically the metal mesh part.

And so many parts - the bin, the lid, the presser, the blade, the sprout section and the jug which I now pour direct into a glass to save another thing to wash.

On top of that, chopping board and a knife as well.

Gave in to the missus and got a Juicer, I do realise this makes me nearly 100% female now :(

Oh no, you bought a centrifuge juicer. We had a philips one for ages.

Those things shred the fruit up and the juice seperates into a nasty brine with a foam on top.

It also breaks down the vitamins and causes oxidation of all the antioxidants, meaning your juice is the big mac equivilent of slow juice.

You want a slow juicer like the hurom 700 i bought last week.

Not cheap but the juice is far better, doesn't separate and last for upto 72 hours in the fridge.

And it makes twice as much juice from the same amount of fruit, as the pulp comes out dry.

I looked at the hurom too, after many comparisons it was an easy £100-£250 saving given my rather simple requirements (I want strawberries and bananas pulped as well as normal juicing), but I'm glad you are happy with your purchase. FYI my pulp is also dry - can't believe I'm having a 'pulp off' :p

I was looking at the Breville Blend Active which can be had for c£20 at the moment..

I've got one of these, lovely little machine, a bit weaker than what I'd like it to be but that is easily circumvented by chopping the fruit a bit smaller. Dishwasher isn't very effective due to the shape of the bottle bit a quick scrub woth a brush takes a couple of seconds.

Could you explain the science behind a cheep (no offence Will) home blender being able to break up the molecular structure of a vitamin?

Heat from the motor breaking weaker hydrogen bonds, I would guess. This causes them to become denatured. But that would take around 60-70* and I'm not sure the temperature would get that high (other vitamins may differ in temperature) that's for vitamin c.

But pressed juicers are considered better for the other points as well such as noise, easiness to clean, more juice out for the amount put in etc.

Oxidation? How long would that take? I normally finish the drink in about 5 mins after making it. Don't store it in the fridge. Not 72 hours.

I thought that's the point of making fresh juice....

Temperature would break bonds yes, but you'd need it to be sustained for a long period of time. The motor wouldn't heat the juice up to that temperature in the time it takes to juice whatever you've put in there.

Which is what I stated...
