~~~~~IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Regarding Intel Sandybridge CPU/Motherboards (1000's IN STOCK)!!~~~~~
I'm interested in knowing this, too. I'm tempted to get either a 2500K or 2600K bundle, but I think 4GB RAM is just too low for a modern system. May be ok for a mid-range build, but if you're after a brand new, just-released CPU running at 4.6Ghz, I think its fair to say you're not after a mid-range build!
Of course, I could just buy all the components separately ans OC it myself, but I'd like to know if there is a real issue hitting these sorts of speeds with 8GB on board. Is 4.6Ghz with 8GB RAM not possible? If not, what could you realistically get to with that much RAM? And will OcUK be providing an OC'd bundle with 8+GB RAM any time soon?
It's not possible to add more RAM at all which is sad to hear. I got feedback on making this small amendment from 5UB and was told "due to them using trusted parts for the warranty". Or selected top-quality parts which is the norm.
Has anyone else managed to get a 2600K @4.6GHz+ with 8GB+ RAM running 24/7 great on Prime?
I could order the parts separately to do it myself as I normally do, but I may only get 4.3GHz if I get a standard chip. Whereas getting the expert technicians at Ocuk to select quality parts and maintain higher clocks is better at the moment due to the limited time I have.
What I'm going to do is wait until the end of this month at the very, very latest, no longer, then we'll see if they sort out that situation. If not, I will have to order elsewhere.
Hi there
The XMS3 however is proving excellent in our testing today, so far stable at 1.40v at rated timings (1600MHz 9-9-9-24). :)
That's better than I thought possible. Corsair XMS3 looks like average RAM but at those timing @1.40 makes the price very attractive. Intel will be delighted to hear that news.
Are you testing any more RAM, such as the low timings of the premium OCZ Platinum 1600MHz (7-7-7-24) ?
So to overclock these CPUs:
1. Set BCLK to 100 manually.
2. Set RAM Voltage to 1.5V.
While ( CPUVoltage < 1.35V ) => Multiplier = multiplier + 1
If unstable => Increase CPUVoltage
Would that be correct?
Yes but to begin with leave CPU voltage at stock, our rig here is running 4GHz prime stable at stock CPU voltage with RAM at rated timings with just 1.40v, very impressed. :)
To get more out of CPU push multiplier higher and increase voltage as needed but be aware that going above 1.35v not advisable, but if you want extreme clock speed some have gone as high as 1.70v Vcore, but the CPU's lifespan could be seriously reduced.
From what I've read on the forums, that sounds correct. You can use the Asus P8P67 EFI BIOS (OC Tuner) to autotune the CPU and see what voltage it sets from there but usually it can set it a little too high in order to keep it stable. This autotune does not get you higher clocks either (4.3GHz), thats down to fine tuning. I would never start tinkering that much as soon as I get it, just stick to 4.3GHz and use your PC as normal until a month down the line when you've settled down with it.
The BCLK is limited due to the on-die clock generator which cut production costs but hampers traditional overclocking from the i7 Bloomfields.
Your RAM voltage may also depend on the frequency of the memory (I'm talking 2000MHz+), so start off 0.2v below the stated volts on the RAM module until you get it stable.
I could live with 4.3Ghz and 8GB RAM. To be honest, I think it'd be more useful for me than 4.6Ghz and 4GB. Of course, 4.6Ghz AND 8GB would be much nicer. ;)
I'm the same as you though; I could do it all myself, but I don't really have the time. I'd much rather have the OC all tested and guaranteed before it shipped to me, rather than spending time I don't have fiddling with settings. Oh to be young again and have the time and patience to sit around prodding the latest gadgets to death! :D
That it would stay at the initial proce for at least a week, and then start to drop! ;)
Well considering there are already places far cheaper ocuk clearly arn't trying to compete against them. What they are trying to compete against is presumably the cheapest price which has a large stock. So if these said competitors have put their price up so will ocuk. If you look else where you will find it far cheaper but you may have a wait to get the cpu. Who knows, rumours were that new stock was coming into one of the main cheap ones tomorrow but I don't particularly trust the shop owners as they seemed to lie about having stock before.
You reckon they would be the "orange retailer"? I never considered them overly orange personally. Perhaps the "moderately orange retailer" would be more apt.
Another retailer is doing 20% off msi boards while stocks last. OCUK's prices are just insulting now tbh. Do they think we are blind to google?
