IMPORTANT news about watching F1 on sky this season

Sky do Sky Go monthly passes for £40 which would work out almost the same as NowTV if there are 2 Sky races within a month. Cheaper if there are 3 (although not sure there are 3 sky races within 4 weeks at any point). Makes £9.99 seem quite expensive for 24 hours.

Actually Sky Go monthly passes are cheaper than buying a Sky subscription, as the cheapest option for SSF1 after April will be a £41 TV package.

Edit: actually no, I miss read. The cheapest Sky Go monthly pass that includes Sports is £35. £40 includes movies. Plus 24 hours would mean you wouldnt get to watch qualifying. That NowTV deal seems a bit of a ripoff.
You could (MissCheif, cover your ears) split a Sky Go monthly pass with a mate as it lets you use it on 2 devices, making a full Sky Sports streaming service £17.50 a month.

How you use your Sky Go monthly subscription is up to you. :)

The first attempt at an F1 channel on Sky years ago. It folded after 1 year.

It was "premium" coverage marketed as pay per view for about £10-15 a race. FOM produced it (so it got nicknamed Bernievision IIRC) with various sub-channels for onboard feeds, midfield runners, timing etc. We all went round a mates house to watch it a couple of times. Mildly interesting but not really worth it as ITV were doing a decent enough job.

It's most annoying trait was that FOM differentiated the services so all the cars got in-car cameras but they were not all available to the host broadcaster therefore the normal coverage for the 99.9% of viewers who either couldn't get (or wouldn't pay for) F1 Digital got worse coverage from the mid 90s until FOM shut down the service in 2002.

Despite having access to both, I actually prefer the BBC coverage. I'll stick to that then.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. They need a 'gamepass' system

can non sky members watch F1 on sky go? its very confusing :(

Sort of. :)

You can subscribe to Sky Go without ha ing a Sky TV sub but its only marginally cheaper than sky TV but has no 12 month contract.

If you have a friend or relative who either doesnt use sky go or is happy to let you use oneof the two slots available with the standard sky sub then you can also watch.

Yeah I remember going round my cousins and watching it. It was good and had some novelties with the split screen, but wasn't worth the cost.

It showed the route FOM were trying to go with F1 though. I'm surprised it took them 10 years before putting it on a subscription service again. I flat out don't believe Bernie when he says he was never in communication with Sky, and that it was the BBC who first raised it. Murdoch has been trying to get his fingers in the F1 pie in some way or another for years.

You will be able to buy a 24 hour pass to all sky sports channels, including F1 on NowTV for £9.99 within the next few weeks. Cheaper than the new packages if you only want the races the BBC don't have live.

Will they be having it as part of a monthly subscription? £9.99 for a 24 hour pass is expensive just for the F1.

I've recently signed up to the 30 day free trial for NowTV.

Has news corp not had F1 on Sky for years in Europe and on US channels?

And as you say F1 is such a small audience in the UK why do you think they have been trying to get their fingers in such a small pie for years?

From FOM 2010
"Formula One Management (FOM) said on Friday that the audience increased to 527 million individuals over the course of the season."

"A total of over 16,000 hours of coverage were telecast to 187 countries during the year"

The BBC avg viewing figures for F1 2010 was 5mil a race so that's 90 mill UK people watching F1 on the BBC.. not bad ;)

BBC 2011 VS BBC+Sky 2012

Not sure what your point is?

Oh for the love of..look at your own post dude
"why do you think they have been trying to get their fingers in such a small pie for years?"

I told you why..it's not small..simples really or is it to early for you :D

Anyway back to Sky F1

But your link shows it is a small pie for sky in the UK?

Barney Francis, the managing director of Sky Sports said recently in The Times newspaper; "There are more people watching Formula One than ever before". So the spin continues even though any regular Joe can check the figures on BARB and see the massive fall in viewers from last year.

Considering how much they paid for the TV rights and with such a low viewership it is debatable new subscribers are making this a worthwhile venture for Sky.

5 million on average per race does not mean 90 million different people are watching F1 in the UK?
