Imreza v Skyline v Mit. Evo

HI there

First of all why is a Skyline in this comparison. The Subaru and EVO are rally cars, wheras the Skyline is GT.

I've driven a P1 Scoob, 2005 WRX, 2006 STi (300BHP).

Just recently I also drove an EVO 9 FQ360.

The plus points of the Scoob are its interior seems better quality and just generally looks nicer, better dials etc. etc. The Scoobs power delivery is also a little more linear, so a little less turbo lag down low. Handling is good, but turn-in seems slow and just does not inspire you to push hard, the car certainly feels heavier in comparison to the EVO.

Wheras the EVO inside was real basic and it does seem a little more laggy the positives of the EVO are ferocious power delivery past 3000rpm, its so ferocious it feels like someone just strapped a rocket to the front and your being pulled to the moon. Handling is also its speciality as turn-in is really sharp and quick but the car feels as if it can completely deny the laws of physics. On UK roads the EVO 9 certainly seems the better handling option over the Subaru and the power delivery makes it feel far quicker than it actually is which is something one could never tire off.

So from the experiences I've had I would take the EVO just for the driving experience alone, I think the Scoob looks nicer both inside and out but the EVO is such a joy to drive fast and a lot of fun for a 4WD vehicle. :)

Are these cars truly comparable? I mean, the Evo and Impreza are both basically road legal rally cars. The Skyline would handle well at all on a rally circuit would it?

Surely the Evo and Imp. are in one class and the Sky in the other?
well the Skyline is/was a track car really, so all three cars come from a motorsport background.

The Scooby engine sounds the same as all the others. It's the uneven exhaust manifold that gives it that noise.
Remove the manifold as some owners do to replace with a better tubular manifold and it will sound like a Nova!.
really?
you're kidding?
so the famous scoob "rumble" is purely down to it's exhaust manifold?

Yes but the Scooby and Evo are permenant 4WD rally cars where as the Skyline in GTR form at any rate is AWD but only when it needs to be and is classed as a GT car.
i was always under the impression that the Skyline is 4wd at all times, but with varying amounts of power going to different wheels depending on the conditions, whereas the scoob/lancer are more of the old fashioned 4wd with a fixed or locked torque split?

Kind of true. Whilst the destinctive 'burble' is mainly down to the un-equal manifold, they still don't sound like an in-line four when you put an equal manifold on. If anything they sound motorbike-ish. Certainly nothing like a Nova....

when it comes to punch per pound buying a fully modded GTI-R is hard to beat :)
i've wanted one for a long time now.
i'd be looking to buy in a fully modified state, mainly as it's cheaper but also because you can view dyno reports to see what you're getting.

why cant you have it? :)
i'm in the process of buying another 2 cars and i simply can't justify adding an extra one to the list.
my pulsar time will come as thankfully there are a lot of them in the UK, and enough of them have had the cars inherant faults already dialed out and improvements added on top of all that.

no way
i know once the car has stopped scrabbling for grip it biases everything to the rear wheels, but i always thought some of the torque was still going to the fronts as well.

ATTESA-ETS is a mad thing lol..

I know its not in english.. but you will catch the drift from just watching it :)

ATTESA-ETS Pro is slightly different and a upgraded virsion.. Found on the R33/34 GTR. Its got a higher clock speed than normal and can handle a lot more calculations :)

that's a bit of a wildcard Fox, what makes you say that?

I don't know - I can't explain it but you strike me as the sort of person that would own a decent Audi - and not an A4 1.9TDI.

i've owned one of the above and to be honest i'd buy another. very good at what they're made to do. obviously beemer cater more to the keen driver though....domething that obviously wasn't on the design brief when you drive one.
only the A3 doesn't appeal as i'd never get the words " recycled Golf" out of my head.
i was thinking about an S class for xmas, but the potential for large repair bills is holding me back.

Are we talking 99-06 shape? Beautiful cars. Half of me really wants an S430 with AMG kit. The other half knows it'd would be bordering on the ridiculous to repair all the time.

yes, i viewed a 2001 model on saturday. (a diesel so don't get too excited, lol). i walked away after convincing myself against it.
same reason you mentioned put me off.

i've never had one before and in terms of luxury they are just superb.
car prices are at an all time low right now, although i suspect this will change as the housing market slows down.
