[In Win 901] Celestial

Absolutely beautiful work, man. I wish I had the money spare for a good CNC.

They are not as expensive as you may think, all in including the spindle (ebay) and all the other junk I added to it,you are looking at about £1500. Tooling will come to around £60 for semi decent carbide of various sizings and profiles.

The real investment comes in the time you are willing to lose learning CAD/CAM,its isnt overly difficult but it will require you to have a 'Need to Know' kind of attitude. I know what Im doing with it but im not a trained machinist,I just spent a lot of time in machine shops and have a father with 40 years+ experience to call on when I need something specialist/overly technical to discuss, normally about the best tooling for the job or a technique for certain operations.

Doing a bit of the detail stuff today, the storage mount is cutting now but I started the day making some little 180 combs,Hans Peder Sahl designed some for a Hexgear build but I couldnt resist making some of my own.....

Looks good. Jealous of your ability to make 3D parts on demand but know that getting my own stuff would likely just lead to self-induced misery. As is, in order to ask someone else to make it, I'm forced to meticulously plan it...which is probably a good thing; even if I don't like to admit it! :D

What exactly do you need? Do you have a sketchup model?

What I need is the restraint to know when I'm being silly (and stop), the patience to plan thing rather just dive in and drive to get my finger out my backside and get things done. If you can help me with any of those, you're a better man than I!

On a serious note, thank you for the offer, it is very much appreciated. I'm currently learning SketchUp with the intention of crossing Parvum's palm with silver for acrylic porn :D
If I get sufficient justification for CNC (and I want to!) I fear I'll want my own. At that point I would be very appreciative of your experience to avoid buying a lemon.
I well know that I have had many ideas during the course of this project. If I'm honest, the ability to take action immediately would have been a mixed blessing. Wasting my own time and materials is probably the way to go...but if I come up with an urgent one-off in the meantime...:D

Regardless of the results (which alone are impressive) the workmanship involved is inspiring...it just takes a little more insight to appreciate it.

Love the look of those combs, just out of curiosity how much do they cost to make as they are excellent. :)

Looking forward to seeing everything painted and finished as this project just keeps getting better and better :D

If you are really wanting to get into 3d modelling and getting parts made then get a copy of Solidworks. If you want stuff made, you can show me your model and I can tell you if it can be made or not, there are a few limitations to machining which is not always apparent when making your base model. You get bet your bottom dollar that the machine shop wont tell you it cant be made and will do it anyway.....

About 25p in materials and 15 mins of machine time.....about a £5 a piece retail from me.

Thanks, appreciate that. I'll confess that I was using SketchUp for its pricetag :D It's working and there are some nice features and some irritations. Solidworks sounds like a large step up and I like the idea of being able to check alignments and bend sheet metal etc. Am I missing something though or would it set me back £3k+ ?!

At the moment, to turn a saying on its head: to a man without a hammer, no problem looks like a nail. Given a CNC sitting on my desk, I'm sure a lot more things would start looking like nails. It's something I'd like to get into as much (if not more) because it interests me than because I have a regular need for it....which makes it difficult to justify the cost.

Sorry about the delay in updates,I have had to have surgery for a DVT which has kind of left me unable to mod right now beyond tinkering...

This is how my leg looks...2 weeks on.

4 procedures in 4 days has left it a bit...... broken. On the upside,it wont take long before im back on my feet and getting this build buttoned up!

Ouch, nasty. If we see a yellow and purple themed build next, we'll know where the inspiration came from!
Hope it heals up soon.

Hi i'm hoping one of you guys can help me.

I love the look of this inwin 901 itx case but i'm not sure if my 1080 amp extreme GPU card will fit in the slot. The length of the card is 320mm so its a big card. The inwin site states max of 300mm BUT people have had bigger cards in there. I just wanted to know if someone who had this case could measure the exact space/length available from front to back panel for a gpu card?

Cheers
Az
