Inception - July 16th

there is a book called 'Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid' by Douglas Hofstadter.

HERE BE SPOILER
=============

"he wrote about a storyteller who gets his protagonist to a cliff-hanger point in a story, then has him start telling another story, which in turn leads to its own crisis, and then again, and then again. After the crisis is resolved at the final, deepest level, we go up and up and up again, and finally out. Only then does Hofstadter call our attention to the fact that we went down 4 levels but only came back up for 3 of them." imdb commenter

i think nolan got his idea from this book, and would certainly explain the ending

=====SPOILER======

As for the ending I think he was in reality. Whenever he was in the dream world he could never see the childrens faces but once he returned home at the end he could. As for the the spinning totum, who knows. As soon as I saw him spin it I knew the film would cut off there.

I thought he chose not to see there faces (by not calling them) as that would be to admit that the dream world was real and he would then go mad like his wife.

The end of the film is deliberately left ambiguous - he is either mental and stuck in limbo or he escaped. I think because the totem wobbled its reasonable to assume that he escaped though...

Very good film - 9/10 - Leo is always good at guilt ridden characters and this one makes a nice double bill with Shutter Island IMO.

I really enjoyed it, saw it last night and still thinking about it now. Special effects were amazing, story line complicated enough to be engaging, not too complicated to irritate and confuse.

I saw this Friday night with some friends. Epic film. Wasn't my local vue's best screen (opening night, wtf?) and we didn't get the best seats in the house.

However, the 2.5 hours (?) flew by really quick. I barely noticed. Great film, good use of effects (Not too little , not too much or OTT). Good story that is very thought provoking in a good way.

Overall I'd give it 9/10 for me, as EPIC as it was there was something missing I haven't quite been able to put my finger on. The Mrs thinks so too. Almost like a lack of depth with something but I really don't know. Even that is nit picking in relation to how good it is!

Best film of the year for me so far and best film I've seen at the cinema since the Dark Knight I think.

Christopher Nolan delivers again.

Gunwarf? I was there on Friday and also was like 'what the hell?' at the screen too.

Yeah Gunwharf. I got sat quite near the bottom in the far corner, about half way back all in all.

My mates were sat behind me and I got stuck next to some fat chavvy appearing woman who kept jumping at any loud noise on screen. Also at the end when he sees his kids she let out this "Ahhhh" noise, as though she had just worked out the films plot from being told the ending. It was quite amusing/annoying at the same time.

I heard there were two 8:30 screenings and one of which was in Screen 3 (A good one). I think the rest were in Screen 4 (ours, the poor one). Bit of a shame that they couldn't let everyone see it in the 2/3 better screens. Given the epic nature of the film.

Lack of depth? - I do believe we were watching a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream at one point :p

Haha but I do sort of know what you mean :p

Yeah, it's hard to explain because it's clearly not a lack of depth within the story line, that's for sure!

I think it was more to do with the characters and the convenience of some of it. That could be easily explained if it was "all a dream" but I'm not so sure that was the case.

I just felt that it was missing something that would have made it 10/10 for me personally. I just can't put my finger on it :D

Yeh, I was in 4 with you, think the place was almost full excepting most of the retarded VIP seats and a few right at the front. I wrote some scathing feedback about them when Vue asked for a review on Saturday.

Has to be said though, even the poor screens in Vue are better than the screens down at Port Solent.

Hells yeah. I usually get epic seats somewhere right in the middle of everything reasonably high up. We were 20 minutes early and the best I got I was thinking "Ah crap seats/view".

It actually didn't make too much difference. I think all of Vue is comfortable and good seating. The only place you never want to be is RIGHT at the front. Felt sorry for those poor ******** arriving at 8:30 bang on to get escorted to the front! :D

Watched on Saturday on a decent enough screen. I didn't know much of what it was about, caught on with the plot but it really didn't do it for me, felt so much like other films before and although well done I really can't rate it that highly.

6/10 for me. Girlfriend and I barely talked about it afterwords!

Watched it this morning. Thought that it was a very good film but echo the comments from another poster about it missing something. Apart from Leo's character you knew nothing of the others background. I know that due to length issues this wasn't really possible but I found it very difficult to care whether they won or lost. Will definitely be one to see again but will not go down as a classic in my eyes.

Just got back from watching it and thought it was amazing. :D

Apart from some of the strange points (see spoiler thread) and that thing that seemed to missing, it is still an excellent film.

Great story, really gripping and thrilling, great action and effects. The ending was awesome as well. :D One of the best films I've seen.

9/10
