do you think an 850W OCZ Gold PSU would be capable of running a pair of these, with a 4.6GHz OC on my chip and at least 1100/6000 on the GPUs?

Yep. I had a couple running on an RM850 fwiw.
Just did a few runs in FS ultra and TR maxed at those clocks (4.8 cpu) and I saw a brief peak of 750w at the wall.
That's with a third 290 idling plus a couple of pumps etc...
You'll be fine unless you attempt high benching clocks/voltage.

the tri-x are meant to be slightly faster and cool slightly better, but they are not under 200 jibs

Can this card overclock at all ? as its quite a low base clock of 947mhz which is the lowest clock of all the cards on sale

947 is the standard 290 base clock and of course it can overclock .
Just because some cards have a higher base clock, it doesn't mean that they'll overclock any better. It's just a technique that mfrs use to charge you extra for something you can easily do yourself and they count on people not knowing any better

You'd be far far easier, opening a cs post, give them your order number and ask for full refund, this should take a few hours to process on Monday morning, then open a fresh order once refund has cleared
I say this as it could be a pain for them to swap out cards at different prices and add an item to the order.
Cracking price on this too, tempted to pick one up for my lan rig project.

Gibbo there was "no stock" and "the last 1000 units worldwide only to finish the production line on the 295X2 because it was going EOL" (I will find your exact post).
Now, they are at £600 and selling by the dozen. Seriously?
