Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

I think this weekend will be the last hurrah for this film, as the release of the new Mission Impossible film next week (Mon for UK, Wed elsewhere) will absolutely kill Indy 5's worldwide takings. So I think the 2nd week drop after this weekend will be nothing compared to the 3rd week drop at the end of the weekend after next (Mon 17th) which will be stunning, especially when cinemas start dropping Indy 5 in huge numbers to max out their capacity for Mission Impossible after the first week as I think that the theatres want to maximise their profits too with more bums on seats and, if like The Flash, there's not enough bums on seats for Indy 5 and MI is a massive hit then theatres will almost be financially forced to drop Indy 5 for MI.

After reading this thread the general consensus seems to be "meh" Most of the reviews I have seen say its worse than "meh" Just funny looking at Rotten Tomatoes. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull gets 77% from Reviewers but only 53% from Audience. The Dial of Destiny only gets 69% from the Reviewers but 88% from the Audience scores. You got to wonder about these reviewers sometimes.

I haven't seen it myself but friends and family have and they all enjoyed it. Maybe my friends and family all have low standards :pThey definitely went into the movie with low expectations. However, they said they were pleasantly surprised. Is it a classic by any means? Nope, but they said it was a proper Indiana Jones movie and a fun watch.

Looking forward to watching it when it comes out on Disney+ or Bluray.

^^^ Mmm it’s a shame that it’s done so badly at the box office. Even Uncharted did substantially better.

As evidenced by the thread, people are seemingly lukewarm about going to the cinema unless they are comfortable they are going to thoroughly enjoy the film OR they feel somewhat obligated because it’s part of something already established. I suppose with the abundance of cheap entertainment out there people are (fairly) more inclined to be picky.

I guess I’m no different. I was always going to enjoy hearing the John William’s score in the cinema, even if the actual film was total pants.

But yeah, total financial disaster for the studios by the sounds of it.

People are slowly convincing me to give it a shot at streaming but no chance I'm paying to see it at the cinema.

It's worth a watch if you like the franchise...

I usually measure films by the number of times I check my phone.

In Dial of Destiny, I frequently found myself browsing on my phone and just checking the film occasionally.

(No one was sat remotely near me so it wasn't distracting for others)

The busiest film I have seen on opening weekend this year had been John Wick 4. Maybe 40-50 in but still only 20% capacity.

Everything else was 4-10 people.

Mario was busy but only same as John Wick.

I think people discern quite strongly especially when much of the straight to streaming paint-by-numbers blockbusters are better than a lot of cinema releases.

I honestly think Raiders would be a tough watch for a kid/teen now.

It's quite slow really.
This makes me sad.

Raiders is the best of the lot, real stunts, gritty and the ghostly myth of the Arc of Covenant is epic!

Temple of Doom upped the ante. Like all sequels not quite as good as Raiders but has some iconic scenes. The intro is brilliant, also Indy and Short Round locked into the squishing chamber is first class.

Raiders is the best indy film for me, with crusade coming in 2nd. I think temple of doom had more comedic elements and set the precedent for the following indy films in that regard.

Don't take Vincent seriously he's the resident white knight for Marvel, Disney, Netflix, Amazon, all the studios, Hollywood and modern entertianment in general, he's just trying to prop up Dial of Dog**** by throwing shade at Raiders, an absolute old-school classic action banger that modern entertainment has no idea how to make nor any desire to.

He just can't stand anything being criticised.

;)

we all know this franchise ended with THE LAST CRUSADE

anything since is just people trying to bank money like all the famous actors that get old and start making nay old crap films

Having watched all the others in the franchise many times over, I should be running out to watch this in the cinema, but I know it will be full of CGI so I think I'll wait for it to appear on Disney Plus.

For what it’s worth, I don’t recall ever finding the CGI distracting in this one. There’s definitely much less ‘obnoxious CGI’ than Crystal Skull where it was really distracting.
