IndyCar 2012

Bad news for Bourdais and Hinchcliffe, it seems that grid penalties for unauthorised engine changes are also an Indycar rule:

Given the nature of the Long Beach circuit, starting near the back is a hefty disadvantage.

Not sure if practice will be live on any UK channels tomorrow, but I assume the race will be on SS4 as normal.

Edit: Wow, this is retarded, all Chevrolet powered cars have a penalty...

Highlights of 1st practice at Long Beach:

The lack of an intermediate tyre caused some problems :p

2nd practice:

Conditions worsened, so only Franchitti and Dixon went out to set laptimes. Then the latter also slid into a barrier, effectively ending the session.

Final practice and qualifying are done, highlights:

Thanks to the engine penalties, 2011 champion Dario Franchitti gets first on the grid (a big opportunity for him to catch up in the championship). Last year's Indy Lights champion Josef Newgarden gets second, and ex-F1 driver Justin Wilson is third. Unfortunately Bourdais will be on the back row due to an engine change.

Long Beach starting order

01. Dario Franchitti
02. Josef Newgarden
03. Justin Wilson
04. Simon Pagenaud
05. Scott Dixon
06. Takuma Sato
07. Mike Conway
08. Graham Rahal
09. Charlie Kimball
10. Alex Tagliani
11. Ryan Briscoe
12. Will Power
13. Ryan Hunter-Reay
14. James Jakes
15. James Hinchcliffe
16. E.J. Viso
17. Simona di Silvestro
18. Helio Castroneves
19. Tony Kanaan
20. J.R. Hildebrand
21. Rubens Barrichello
22. Marco Andretti
23. Oriol Servia
24. Ed Carpenter
25. Sebastian Bourdais
26. Katherine Legge

The race is live on Sky Sports 4 at 9pm tonight.

Aaand another one.

Rahal has no rear wing.
Legge is in the wall.
Andretti is in the wall.
Tagliani was trundling around on 3 good wheels and one with broken suspension too.

Funny. Just funny.
