anybody else having problems paying for it? each time i try i get "Temporary connection problem. Please, refresh page to proceed."
any ideas?

the walking dead series for eg ?

pay up front obvious didn't have money to finish game said each episode would be each month while asking for your money .

money was paid upfront game release date came and gone :p

most recent eg.

look at games that ask you for money up front its to pay for the game they making meaning they haven't got enough to finish it themselves meaning they struggling for funds which means whoever they tried to get funding from in first place didn't want to fund the project.

the game wont last long and dayz will be the better game overall.

You forget Dayz will be offering the game available to buy on alpha standalone.

It has nothing to with funding to finish a project, most of the costs are already done this late in the game. It's purely a new trend to get better returns, you're getting sales before any reviews or feedback and equals more profit.

If a publisher needed more funds to pass onto a development studio they would all be going under as we've seen in the past.

It's a marketing technique, remember the sales go straight to the publisher not the developer. The developer will be paid in milestones or upfront with only some seeing royalties. This is of course different for companies that are their own publishers.

I paid up front for my pre-order of Natural Selection 2 and I'm glad I did the game is excellent to play and I'm happy that I contributed towards an excellent game. Ive supported Unknown Worlds over the years they have been up and running, hell I even donated while NS1 was still being played.

I think theres been a lot of negative press since the closed beta annoucement of WarZ but at the end of the day its down to personal interests. I loved DayZ when it came out but I soon grew tired of it, the obvious bugs in the arma2 engine and some gameplay changes that were needed desperately never came to light. I look forward to WarZ and their attempt at something that could be much much more.

That is not always the case, you must realise that? It seems to be the way all the "bigger" games are getting released these days. If you can get your game bought before it even comes out, without any reviews even if they do/dont like it they already have your money.

It also gets the name of the game out there a lot quicker this way as before closed beta actually meant closed. These days it means closed with the keys they have given out, but if you buy the game then you get access which a lot of people will pay for. It's quite a smart concept really although i really hate it as it gets all the people in who are desperate for a key which would normally pay or spend hours begging for one and at the end of it they get the game regardless of their opinion on the game.

But it seems the way games especially MMO's and the bigger multiplayer games are heading and we will probably see a lot more of it over next couple of years.
