Insulate Britain and Extinction Rebellion, domestic terrorists?

All they're doing is alienating the public. Who will still be voting for the current loons anyway.

I would, if I thought that they stood a chance where I live, we’ve had to vote Lib-Dem for years to keep the verdammt Labour mob out, who in my opinion couldn’t run a whelk stall.
Unfortunately they got in two elections ago, oh well, that’s democracy.
I could no more vote Socialist than I could vote for Kim Jong-Un, I’ll probably vote Conservative just to give a bit of needle to the pinko candidate.

As people have already pointed out, many social reforms in history started out alienating the public and were deeply unpopular.
And what is it exactly that this lot want?
From their website, I assume they just want it for free, or in other words, for other people to pay for it:
WE DEMAND

1
That the UK government immediately promises to fully fund and take responsibility for the insulation of all social housing in Britain by 2025;

2
That the UK government immediately promises to produce within four months a legally binding national plan to fully fund and take responsibility for the full low-energy and low-carbon whole-house retrofit , with no externalised costs, of all homes in Britain by 2030 as part of a just transition to full decarbonisation of all parts of society and the economy.

Public opinion is not always a good measure of whether a particular political tactic is good or not. The Civil Rights movement was deeply unpopular amongst the US population despite only ever using 'peaceful' direct action tactics.

Suffragist tactics? Deeply unpopular. Boycott South African apartheid? Unpopular. Armed resistance to colonial regimes? Deeply unpopular. Slave revolts? Unpopular. These things were all maligned... till they got the goods.

This isn't to say Insulate Britain have a particularly good strategy. It's not clear they do, but that's not because their tactics are unpopular. Social movement tactics are always unpopular until they do that whole thing of, ya know, socially moving people...

I'm sure a pro slavery movement these days using those tactics would be unpopular too doesn't mean it would be right or good or win in the long run.

Heck pretty much everything is unpopular as there's not much that unites people

"Unpopular = the future is a pretty silly argument

When I was a wee little lad, I went through this little phase of about a year or so thinking I had the solutions to all the problems that adults faced. I must've been 4-5 at the time. "Crime levels escalate out of control" the news would say, and I'd solve this very simple problem by hiring more cops. Sorted, none of the complications that adults face.

Of course you grow up eventually and start to realise that solutions like this cost money, and money is a finite resource, so I learned anyway.

It seems that their mentality is that of mine when I was a toddler, "we need more insulation" - "well then install more insulation" with zero regard to any of the millions of factors they haven't thought of.

As frustrating as it is, it's still rather humorous to see that even after evolving for the last 2000 years, as a species we're still capable of producing people this simple, and at ages where they really ought to know better.

Do the protesters not pay income tax, national insurance, vat on the goods they purchase, stamp duty on the houses they buy or inheritance tax?

I think the more accurate statement would be "From their website, I assume they just want it for free, or in other words, for everyone to pay for it:"

Well duh

Millionaire landlords can't be expected to insulate their property portfolio's now can they?

According to the newspaper, Smith’s firm in Oldham has at least six homes with E or F energy efficiency ratings.

This is below the national average for England and Wales and means the properties will likely have little insulation.

When confronted about owning six homes, Smith admitted their insulation was ‘not great’ and was ‘not too sure’ about their EPC ratings.

Or how could they be expected to give up thier driving holidays?

revealed she embarked on a 81,000 mile trip across the globe in a diesel-fulled Toyota.

Just look at thier little faces how dare you expect them to practice what they preach, little saints all!

The activist took a 10,000 mile, four-month-long trip across Canada, beginning in the Autumn of 2019, according to reports, including 8,500 in flights alone.

The round trip reportedly would have been over 1,500 miles – which Mr Ford drove in a “lovely little” diesel-powered Citroen van.

Well they're currently £4k short of thier fundraising goal to insulate the house of their leader

Seems charity starts in someone else's pockets that a group containing several Millionaire can't raise 4k

I mean this govt managed to funnel billions into their cronies pockets and nobody even flinched so finding some free money shouldn't be an issue.

Hmm, I thought they were campaigning to insulate Britain, not stop vehicle derived CO2 emissions..........................

Maybe I have misunderstood the name of their organisation.

So the uninsulated slum Lord not an issue for you then?

Well if they are successful, he'll have to uprate them wont he?

Sounds quite selfless to me, taking a stand on an issue even though he'd be financially penalised by it.

Classy. And why they aren't getting much support.

Don't forget that you're talking to someone who is a professional byskater. This guy has worked every single government system to the nth degree, like milking student loans and purposefully staying under the £25k threshold so he doesn't have to pay them back whilst earning money elsewhere, leaving the rest of society to foot the bill.

If anyone's got no stone to throw in this fight, it's amiga :D

People who did this is very stupid cos emergency like ambulance, etc need urgently so it need stop doing this or anyone may drive pass people sit on road... so no choice but just drive through people sit on road that tough one.. I would drive through people who sit on road to block it.. that too bad for them.
