Hi guys, I passed my test last month and am now thinking of getting a car since I've got a bit more money :D So what I wanted to ask was what would insurance be like on a "97 Fiesta 1.3 Encore 3dr" I'll be 19 at the end of the month havn't done Pass Plus.

Thanks in advance Joe

Do an online quote from an insurer in the sticky, anything any one says on here will just be guess work.

Do not buy a Fiesta 1.3 Encore. It is a candidate for worst car ever.

Here is why:

a) It has the awful, horrible, nasty Endura 1.3 engine. It's unrefined, its noisy, and its about as powerful as a small hamster. Who died.
b) It is an Encore. This is absolute bottom of the range. You get horrible black plastic bumpers which fade to an annoying grey colour, you get stupid handles to wind the windows up with, you don't get any kit whatsoever. It's rubbish.

It also looks rubbish with it's ugly front end, annoying black bumpers and stupid wheel trims.

If you want a Fiesta, buy a 1.25 instead. Smaller engine, but better in every single way. And get a Zetec or a Ghia.

There is no doubt that the 1.3 is a dire engine, seriously outclassed by the 1.25. This, unfortunately, is reflected in the insurance groups. The 1.3 is IG4, the 1.25 is IG5/6 dependant on trim level.

However, the difference between Group 4 and Group 5 is negligable at best.

Possibly, but the difference between 4 and 6 is less so. I have no idea of the OP's financial circumstances, but that difference could be too much.
as Firestar stated, the only way to know for sure is to get quotes.

I disagree. As somebody who has been insuring Group 9 and above since 18, I've found little real difference between the lower groups. Certainly not enough to dictate car choice.

Well tbh mate I ain't gonna be going any where in a hurry with it :D

Is there any way to get insurance quotes without Vreg numbers? Since I don't really have any to go on. Also yeh I was looking at some Zetecs look really Nice

My quote was £87 extra, for the 1.25 Fiesta than the 1.3, certainly not enough to make me go for the 1.3 because it was cheaper.

The £87 was far outweighed by the 1.25's better engine, more features, alloy wheels, front fog lights etc etc

Thats no reason to buy something utterly horrible when you can get something better for the same money.

Yup, leave the reg box blank.

Thanks guys for the quick responses also is there any other good places to search for cars other than eBay and Autotrader? since there isn't too many Zetecs infact theres like 2 in my price range :D

Whats some good Online companies to try then cause I was going to look at the autotrader ones but really I wanna know what decent ones other people know :D not something they will get commision on :D

Well I just done a online quote on the autotrader on a 1.25 Ghia 1996 (N) and the highest insurance I got was "£4564.40" the lowest "£2635.72" Fully comp so bit to expensive there any ideas where to look now? :D
