Intel bug incoming? Meltdown and Spectre exploits

Don't the combination of OS patch and BIOS in some cases have some random freezing issues? I've not followed that side closely.

Seem to think you are right, Though going on his post he/she was already getting that issue.

Can't really say/help as don't do windows

Still no Spectre fix for Haswell on either of our Gigabyte or Asus boards and I doubt that we will ever get one.

None for me either on an Asus x99-A, very surprised, as a popular board by all accounts, like the DELUXE, they only have 2x x99 mobos on the list for the BIOS update, the ROG STRIX, and the ROG RAMPAGE V EDITION 10, a very poor show.

So the master race boards get updates while the enthusiast market is ignored. I'm not sure why I'm surprised TBH.

Wonder how long before its discovered the patch opens another backdoor...

Intel and MS seem to fast becoming a bit of a joke these days. Seems like a lot of the older more experienced and older era mentality developers and so on are retiring and the newer breed are far more complacent and sloppy and/or doing it more as a career with less actual real passion for it so no real pride in their work. (Though project management these days somewhat works against that as well even when individuals do care).

Yay, Westmere-EP is available. Perfect timing to patch the 2012 BIOS image and update the old girl this weekend. Any recommendations for benchmarks to run before and after (if I can be bothered)?

I've already got a patched BIOS image ready for my Haswell server but it's a pain to get to so probably won't update it for a while. Haven't even thought about what to do with my Sandy Bridge server and Ivy Bridge HTPC yet, god that's gonna be effort.

Still no patch for my skylake either, also no ME patch from what sept? I don't think vendors really care and are mostly hoping that the problem magically goes away.
