***Intel Core i5 / i7 (1156) Reviews and Discussion Thread***

Meh, either way I'll see what happens tomorrow! If I get a decently priced board then i5 here I come...if not, I can't really be complaining with the 955!

Dammit, January 2010 I told myself, I'd wait til then. But now I've just priced up a nice system and I get paid a week friday and still got some student loan money from last year that would cover the costs, and can claim a bit back with current setup. Dammit!!!!

Bah, not sure which to get, the i5 750, or the i7 860. I only game so my head says the i5 but there is a evil voice somewhere saying just to get the 860 !!

i5 looks like fairly good value. Disappointed that the i7 860 doesn't seem to be worth it - for about £40 more you can get a 920 CPU on a more mature platform with 6GB RAM instead of 4GB.

well I didn't expect to see the i7 870 be so highly priced!! I think I will stick with my i7 920s thank you...not even the i5 lot can make me change my mind...my 2nd 920 build will be used for video editing and encoding as well...my other 920 is doing me fine for gaming and I have no reason to downgrade/swap/rebuild any of the motherboards or CPUs for a long time to come...

but for those of you who do get these new bits...enjoy :D

Now that's the other thing I don't get...why make a backward move like that? go from DDR3 triple channel to dual channel? Seems strange but I am sure Intel (as always) know what they are doing...

1366 = triple-channel = high-end
1156 = dual-channel = mainstream

That's the way it's supposed to work, anyway. The i7s on 1156 just seem out of place. They need to come down by £50.

They need to come down by more than that especially the 870...I mean seriously £439!!! If they are meant to be mainstream then make them that little more affordable...
