Intel Core i7-11700K Review: Blasting Off with Rocket Lake

What a mediocre chip from those benchies...

Skipping all processor gens this time and gonna wait for next round when AMD have whatever series they decide to not skip and Alder Lake. The 9900k has plenty more to give yet.

I didn't read the whole thread. Do we know the price on this yet?

It doesn't look like they got the top spot back from AMD, but if they price it right, (and actually have stock) it could still be a nice offering.

Rumoured price is higher than amd 5800x and maybe 5900x so not even good in that way if were to believe the rumour mill

This chip only makes sense of it's a meaningful amount cheaper than 5800X, at the same price the AMD is the oblivious choice.

it seems logical until you go through the cpu section and actually read about amd cpus and the many issues that often accompany them. usb issues , crashing, matching certain types of memory , heat and other issues. while intel maybe level or just below for some tasks they often just work ! no messing about. also amd cpus are priced way above where they should be. so intel at the moment do offer some very good cpus for the prices.

5600 6 core cpus at nearly 300 quid is a utter joke.

Yeh intel do offer good chips at this moment the 18050k is a great chip as is the lower end just not rocket lake ones if all is to be believed and it wasnt that long ago there was issues with usb on intel and not everyone is having issues with amd chips

Come on DG this is just low effort drivel. You think Rocketlake will just work with no issues cooling its almost 300W peak power usage?

Intel is hardly without issues on its CPUs. Look at all the exploits they've had to fix with performance reducing patches.

I don't disagree AMD are issues but the USB disconnect issue is massively overblown and RAM compatibility hasn't been an significant issue since Zen 2. There are some people reporting reporting crashing issues but it seems to be pretty infrequent.

My 5900X has been faultless, apart from the fact it's entirely imaginary according to Dave2150.

Just a reminder what intel has been up to in the last 12 months. Linus had good reasons to pull them up on their rubbish and the segmentation they keep doing.

Even Apple has run away.

Intel needs to stop their rubbish and this new generation with rocket lake is still doing the same (but worse too) and proving they don't listen and again they will get the same bad publicity videos posted about them regarding this generation. They really deserve all the bad publicity they asked for with their behaviour and still not listening to consumers and the I.T media.

I still have a r7 1700 from launch and not had any issues, only when I've tried overclocking I've had crashes, but that could have been because I have no idea what I was doing. Most likely upgrade soon though, think it's holding back my rtx 3070

Some people laughed when Apple left Intel, actually Tim Cook made a genius level decision - never sit on a sinking ship

Nothing you can say makes these new Intel chips any less rubbish.

He seems to use the same Thermalright cooler for his recent Intel reviews. It wasn't the 'best cooler on the market' in 2008 when it came out and is definitely nowhere near the best air cooler in 2021. I'd hazard a guess that his temperature readings are going on for ~10c off from if he did use a current air cooler like the D15 etc.

I agree that Rocketlake is a bit of a dud but his testing methodology leaves a lot to be desired.
Noctua is rated to 225W i dont think it would have fared much better.

true but so many people have been burnt by AMD 'niggles' in the past

you want something to work with less hassle buy intel

that makes very little sense, you pay more to buy inferior product because it works? to what extent does work mean?

I am using AMD platform, it works....so what does that mean to your mantra above?

All they have to do is copy AMD progression from Zen1 to Zen3.

i think they have been trying to sort out their interconnect for years; i read somewhere they laughed at Zen 1's micro architecture but started to do their own research and then zen+ and zen 2 came they were pretty busy trying to do something of their own - the so called "Super Glue".

anyway cant remember where i read it but it was a drive to increase yield on 10nm so they can start using chiplets instead of monolithic dies.

People like me won't tho. People who were genuinely on the fence, having no preference for either company. Temporarily peed at AMD for raising prices, but not peed enough to buy an inferior product out of spite (not quite :p).

So now it's choice of buying nothing, wait for prices to drop, or buy AMD at today's stupidly high prices.

Will wait for the actual launch to see what the reaction is, but suspect there will be absolutely no reaction at all.

Personally I will probably wait, buy Zen3 towards the end of the year. I already have the RAM, PSU, SSD, so waiting is annoying, but not impossible.
that is probably the sensible thing to do. when Eth 2.0 hit and the profitability of Eth dives those GPU demand will wane meaning more capacity for CPU thus end of year looks good for discounting. from price perspective, Zen 3 end of year or Intel 10th Gen now (inferior product again but a decent 15% off from the equivalent zen prices).
