Intel Core i9-12900K allegedly scores 30K points in Cinebench R23

If Alder lake is within 5% of Zen3 (both gaming perf and other tasks) I think thats pretty impressive, given how people were hyping up zen3 and how great it is if intel can get close enough to it, or even surpass it thats good for everyone.

I do think that the real performance gains will be seen in the next couple of generations though. Zen4 is looking mighty, and with the new stacked design on top of everything else, the performance increase is going to be huge

Just like with current Gens i do not think there will be much at al between the 2 platforms in 1440P and 4k gaming other than price

I can see 1440p results having a bit more affect now, but yeah 4k wont make any difference
 
Intel will be keen to start charging a premium again the moment they get a whiff of being faster. Lol.

I am interested in some of their 11xxx chips, but they take too much power (I have a mini itx case with a special 500w supply), and no heatsink means additional cost.
Always look at the full picture rather than just focusing on one component.
 
The trouble was that Intel saw AMD hike prices when they took the lead with Zen 3 and that people were happy to pay more so it's not supprising Intel will try the same if they gain the lead and then AMD will up them again with Zen 4.

Um.... well just 4 years ago Intel were charging

£1000 for a 10 core.
£1200 for a 12 core.
£1400 for a 14 core
£1700 for a 16 core
£2000 for an 18 core

Short memories...

Also a year before that charging £1750 for a 10 core and £1000 for an 8 core.

Looking very expensive for 12900k a nice board and DDR5

They were HEDT chips though which now cost 4K for the high end.

4 years ago Intels flagship standard desktop chip the 8700K cost around £350 yet AMDs lowest end zen 3 model the 5600X released for around £300 and is only 20% faster in ST/MT and around 10% faster in gaming so not exactly amazing progress in price to performance for a CPU that released years later.

Its more than 10%, the 5600X is more than 15% faster than the 10600K where the GPU isn't the bottleneck, Comet Lake has an 8% IPC gain on Coffee Lake so its probably more like 25%.

10600K was $262
5600X was $299

And yes i said at the time the 5600X was too expensive.

And for most people Ryzen 5000 was a drop in upgrade.

Not if you overclock it which you should really be doing with Intel in which case the 10600k performs about the same as a stock 10900k in gaming and will also gain on the 5600X in ST/MT

You can do the same with the 5600X, its conservatively clocked out of the box. 65 Watts and all that...

Which need more money spending to get a decent board and cooling. Plus the 10600k is way down the binning ladder.

The 5950X is a HEDT chip. The 5900X too.
