Intel D975XBX

Cheers for the info - looks like I'll have to go elsewhere for this board.

I have no real problems with an OEM product, but the warranty is worrying, and I certainly wouldn't pay that sort of £££ for one. If it was under £100 then I'd consider it, but would still rather pay £160 for the full retail pack with all the extras and a proper warranty. OCuk need to state that it's an OEM product on the web page !!

the problem I have is that citylink dont seem to treat brown boxes with any care...big rips in the box covered by city link tape just dont cut it ....#
would be good if ocuk put big fragile stickers on the box so city link could treat it with a bit of respect.. as it is im waiting for the processor to see if it works.

Yes the packaging definitely looks a bit dodge also :o . I have cancelled my order, its a little sad as all my Conroe stuff bar the CPU itself was going to come together, now I will have to source my mobo somewhere else :( .

Now that's definitely a cause for concern...

Anything to add Gibbo/underbosses/Dons?

Hi there

You guys were screaming for these boards in the quickest form possible so we took what was offered.
They arrive at OcUK boxed in 10's, thats one big box with 10 motherboards in and all the accessories.
So then our staff have made up smaller boxes and have wrapped the boards in very expensive bubble wrap, in fact these boards are packaged extremely well.

OcUK does not specify OEM or Retail in their description so anybody who assumes they are getting something that could be superior that is not specified should not assume.

OcUK has guaranteed revision 304 which is what we are shipping, though unfortunately a few 302's were shipped to us which have thankfully now all been returned to the supplier.

We shall review the price and if there is any room then we shall reduce the price and make it very clear that this is an OEM board. We shall also see if we can get any retail boards in that are guaranteed 304.

I actually think it works the other way around - I expect components to be OEM unless the description specifically says 'retail packaged'.

Surely the product description on the site needs to be changed to let buyers know its an OEM they are getting?

Where does it state its retail? All components more or less come in OEM form which is pretty much the standard.

Though to make it clearer OEM has been added to the description!

I suppose they would argue that it doesn't explicitly say that it is the retail version, in any case an unpleasant surprise for people who wanted the retail version :o . I suspect anybody who has one/receives one could return it under distance selling if they really dont like it.

They could as long as its un-used as in the condition it was shipped in. If its been used then no. Though the last time I bought a piece of hardware I don't remember looking at the shiny box or giving a damn about how it came packaged as long as it worked. :)

Longer warranty is nice but with these kinda components faults tend to occur in the first couple weeks of use or like most people here we tend to only keep our hardware for approx 6 months.

So are we to presume that any of the Conroe boards on pre order at the moment could potentially be OEM stock when they're shipped?

I am saying presuming is the mother of all mistakes! Never expect anything for free but to make it clearer I have added OEM for those who do presume.

I must also note that our description does not specify 3yr warranty either.

Fair enough, what can we expect to receive if we order one of the Asus boards then?

There really is no problem with an OEM mobo. They work the same way as a retail one. The only confusion is about the price being set to retail value. I think a slight reduction in price to compensate for it being OEM would easily settle this fuss :)

There's a problem when the retail version comes with stuff that the OEM version doesn't though (other than just the box) - in this instance the front & rear panel adaptors. Plus Conroe is going to be my first build so I'd find something like a manual pretty useful.

I didnt care that it was oem...all I cared was that there was a big slash in the box...didnt know that they were meant to open it so thx to someone who posted earlier.thought the box had been mistreated but since someone said that they all have to be opened im cool :D

it should be noted that the manual is on a pdf file on one of the cds... tells you how to install it etc... you can pretty much work out by the sticker thing as well where everything si meant to go as it has labelled pretty much everything...

cant work out how to put those front audio headers in though as they are different from what it says on the pins.
