Intel D975XBX

I am saying presuming is the mother of all mistakes! Never expect anything for free but to make it clearer I have added OEM for those who do presume.

If that is the case then think it would be in the shops best interest to update the complete motherboard section stating if retail or oem products. The graphics card, cpu and hard drive sections all specify oem or retail in the product description. And i for one aswell as many other forum users would feel rather hard done by, if supplied with a oem product for a retail price when every single motherboard i have received from ocuk in the past has been a retail package.

Thanks for the update Gibbo.

Personally I always assume it's retail unless it's labelled as OEM - all your other products are labelled as OEM where applicable. Even forgetting the description, the price would make me think it's a retail, as it's within about £2 of your competitors retail prices for the retail box.

I have no problem with OEM products per se, but when they lack a lot of components, particularly motherboard extras, it becomes a much bigger deal. If it was like a gfx card, where you maybe don't get a game and a dvi convertor, then fair enough, but with this board it looks like you're missing some important (imho) stuff.

Plus having the full retail pack significantly affects any sell-on-value that the board has.

Gibbo, could you let us know as soon as you know pricing/availability (if at all) of the retail mobo's, please ?? Want to order it all from yourselves, but for the above reasons I'll only buy the retails pack. Cheers.

can anybody with this board please confirm crossfire support:( as mine isnt working right, each card works fine individually, and the second is in device manager, crossfire is enabled in CCC, latest drivers installed and a seperate PSU powering each card.

Tried swapping lanes, dvi connectors and a full reinstall(which helped abit)...
read that some intel boards also give you the option in the bios to select a secondary PCIe card, but the 2 latest bio's dont:( and in the latest bios release(20/6/06) you cant see any of the values under chipset configuration:(

when both cards are in it says the lanes are running @ x8 which is right but i get no extra performance... someone please help

Sry, but still nowhere near tempting.

FYI I just found a place with 15 rev304 retail packs in stock - and they're £154.30inc vat. And yes, they're guaranteed 304's.

@Gibbo - I appreciate your quick feedback etc, I just expected OCuk to be much more competitive than this, especially with so much demand for the board. If you're buying/selling OEM boards for that price, I can only assume you're making a huge markup or haven't made a very good deal with your suppliers.

So whats the bottom line with this motherboard? Im starting to feel a bit wary of buying the asus board now as it has issues. Would this be good for me? Im not going to overclock much infact the 6600 conroe I buy will prolly be running at stock for a while, alongside gskill 5300 2gig ram.

I'm in the exact same position as you. I won't be overclocking much to start off with and I have the same memory as well. I was looking towards the Asus P5B but I'm not totally sure anymore. I think i'm just going to wait until a little closer to release before I decide which to get. After the 14th, we should start to see a load of reviews with Conroe on the various different motherboards.

whether they are oem or retail is irrelevant...they should ALWAYS be marked up correctly to comply with the sale of goods act if nothing else. Consumers should be 'correctly informed' of exactly what they are buying.

And a motherboard manual should ALWAYS be supplied no matter whether oem or retail. What I find hard to believe is that I got one of these from another etailer last week, OEM, a fair bit cheaper (although price is irrlevant imo) with braided cables and a manual.

mine cost £129.18 from anothe ronline etailer....but ive spoken to three before i brought and they all supply oem boards WITH a manual. They also like ocuk have buy in system builder packs of either 10 or 20. But importantly there are other retailers out there offering the bad axe guaranteed 304, a lot cheaper with braided cables, sata cables, cds, floppys and manual.

I was having a look at the spec and it says "Four Serial ATA interfaces with RAID support (four additional interfaces available with optional discrete RAID controller)"

What is this discrete raid controller, does it mean the board only comes with 4 working sata ports and you have to buy something to get the other 4 working?
