Intel Dual Core from £79 +VAT

Majority of intel CPU's have the multipler adjustable between 14 and 17 because they have speedstep. The motherboards take advantage of this allowing you to fix the lower multipler.

I read a review of the 805, which was being used on an intel motherboars, 945 chipset I think. Where they changed the multipler, this was either BS, or they had a preproduction chip or somthing, as I have seen no one who has been able to lower the multipler.

BS, there is no option on the 805d's to unlock the multiplier, might have been samples on their review.

Anyway,
got some benches going on and there we have,

Comparing these two chips, it seems that the 805D performs better per clock speed (by observing the results and assuming that there is 300mhz clock difference in between them).

SuperPI is 34secs while the 920D has 31sec at 4.15Ghz.

Seems that if the 805D could run at same speed as the 920D it would deffo had better scores.

deffo a very good and CHEAP dual core, best buck per clock I would say :D
only issue is that it needs a good cooler to run at decent temps as this thing runs at 50oC's stock volts (under full load it drops to 1.4) room temp 27oC on custom water at these speeds.

I can't get anything better than 38 seconds - I can do the 3.8GHz, but my RAM (Corsair Value PC4300) won't go to 4-2-2-4 which I reckon must be the difference.

I have had 35s with mine at 3.7ghz running the ram with awful timings (5,5,5,15 1T).

don't mean to go off topic or anything, but has anyone seen how fast the yonah is when its overclocked, there remarkable little processors, they'll beat FX-60s i do not for a second doubt it, even clock for clock, plus there like a third the price. preslers are utterly fantastic processors i think, they clock really really high and when you overclock you essencially overclock the bus speed as well, which improves performance by quite a bit usually

does that winrar benchmark use both cores?

my 146 got 693kb/s and im not even using dual channel memory ??
only one core :(
dunno if there is a newer winrar version which uses both cores
the one used was 3.30 version

WJA96,
run cpu-z and go to mem tab, what frequency is it running at?

updated to 3.60 winrar version and...

WINRAR running both cores, enjoy!

guessing that my previous 920D could do about 1200kb/s when using both cores

new superpi at 33secs, no tweaks or anything, just booted in windows without winamp and downloading software running on the background :D

According to CPUz it's doing 759 (CPU screen) and FSB : DRAM 1:1, 190@4:4:4:12 Memory screen. I am running dual-channel.

When I tested I used a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 with the drivers off the motherboard CD as the chipset drivers haven't changed since then.

I just checked using Throttlewatch and it's throttling horribly - 60% plus!

I've turned it down to 150FSB and the RAM is running at 2:2:2:8!

SuperPi 37 secs! Mental. It really is so RAM dependent.

you running your memory 1:1, fix your divider to 3:5 or 1:2 to gain better performance. Be careful though start with CL4 4-4-12 timings and ~ 2.1vmem to handle the high mem speeds.

805d upgrade, what i will need

hi,

i am looking into getting a 805d, i currently have a intel pentium 4 550 running at 3387Mhz (242x14), msi 925x neo motherboard and 2x 512mb 533 ddr2 ram (cas 4) + 2x 256mb 533 ddr2 ram(cas4).

I have read a little about the performance of the 805d and am very interested in getting one due to the value for money and the great speeds it can reach (3.9Ghz i have seen)

I have a akasa evo 120 cpu cooler, would it be best to upgrade this when overclocking the 805? I have also asked for a powersupply recomendation because i have one of them rubbish gold q-tec 400w ones

Would any one be able to put me a list together for me for the following:

Motherboard:
Ram:
Powersupply:
CPU cooler:

many thanks
jamie

Gah Q-Tec run for your life! :D

You will need a diferent motherboard as the 925x chipset doesnt support it. The Intel Nforce 4, 945, 955x and 975x are all pretty good choices as for the PSU get a seasonic 430w (£40 from elsewhere and well worth it).

I use the Asus P5ND2 SLi Deluxe and have the chip at 3.6ghz on stock cooling although it probably could go higher with better cooling (higher volts).

CPU cooler the arctic freezer 7 pro is about the best value and one of the best performance wise, your ram will be fine although I would just keep the 2x512mb and have dual channel.
