Intel Haswell Refresh Processors Codenamed Devil’s Canyon – Launching in Mid 2014 With Unlocked Desi

I think you guys should read this, looks like 8 series motherboards may not be supported by the Haswell refresh, Intel are not saying yes or no yet, but it also states in the review that from what they could see of the back of the CPU, they could see the pin layout was different to current Haswell CPU's

I'd be surprised if they didn't work on current socket 1150 boards.

When the Haswell refresh rumours first came, they were adamant "NEEDS Z97" (While I was saying that this ALWAYS happens, and it's likely just scaremongering)

Then came the "WORKS ON Z97 and Z87" (I lol'ed)

And now we've gone back to the "NEEDS Z97"

However, fun fact, check some recent BIOS updates, what do they say? ;

MAXIMUS VI HERO BIOS 1402
1. Improve system stability.
2. Support New 4th-Generation Intel Core Processors
3. Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first update the BIOS using USB BIOS flashback, or download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using it.

Yeah I just updated my hero for 4th gen support so they must work on Z87, it would be ridiculous if they did not run on the same socket. And if they do not run then **** you Intel.

Bios version 1.2 for my Z87M Gaming was released on 26th February and has support for Haswell refresh processors.

Don't think I will be getting rid of my 4770K though unless there are noticeable gains to be had.

This is good news if Z87 defo supports the new chips. Especially if the die and hs have better thermal capabilities possibly leading to better and more consistent overclocking capability. I have a decent 4770k, but I might be tempted to pick 1 of the new chips up, if reviews seem favourable. Selling 4770K would pay for most of the "upgrade".
