Intel Haswell Refresh Processors Codenamed Devil’s Canyon – Launching in Mid 2014 With Unlocked Desi

This is good news if Z87 defo supports the new chips. Especially if the die and hs have better thermal capabilities possibly leading to better and more consistent overclocking capability. I have a decent 4770k, but I might be tempted to pick 1 of the new chips up, if reviews seem favourable. Selling 4770K would pay for most of the "upgrade".

I wouldn't count on it, I think like many others have stated, this refresh is going to be labelled as Extreme edition, and that = massive price increase, I was looking at a chart earlier, Intels top CPU will be the 4970k and is a quad core with hyper threading, 3.6ghz with 4.0ghz turbo stock speed, there will also be a new 4770k (why bother if you already have one), your not going to see any performance increase if you already have a good clocking 4770k, the only thing you may get is better temps, and you can get that now if your willing to de-lid, I would hazard a guess at £400+ for there top model, if its labelled as extreme.

That's fair enough, but why would you think they would be £400?? That's a huge increase.

Ive seen the pricing for the new 4770k, and at the moment i'll tell you Intel are planning to start that one at £327, that's £75 more than the current 4770k, basically, you have to pay for improvements, I think you can add upto £100 on top of that for the 4970k but this CPU is TBC yet

The 4770k is going EOL though surely. It will be replaced by the 4790k. All the new Devils Canyons chips will have improved TIM. Perhaps they will be slightly more expensive, but 400? Not a chance! Thats nudging near Intels 6 and soon to be 8 core CPU's.

Read the line-up list hallway down the page.......it lists 4770, with 4790 being the top one

Friends who work for Intel in Swindon have also mentioned this.

The prices would remain the same as current processors since these chips would basically be replacing the current models at their respective MSRPs. As for the unlocked K-series chips, Intel is expected to launch K-Series Haswell Refresh chip in Q3 2014 prior to the launch of their Broadwell K-Series chips and their flagship Haswell-E HEDT platform by the end of 2014.

The Intel Core i7-4790 would be replacing the Core i7-4770 and bring a 100 MHz clock speed bump bringing the final clock frequency to 3.6 GHz base and 4.0 GHz turbo

The Core i7-4790K will be the flagship processor of the Haswell Refresh lineup and the first 22nm consumer CPU to obtain clock frequency of 4 GHz. It will feature 4 cores and 8 threads along with a fully unlocked design which will allow users to overclock the chip past the limits thanks to the improved thermal design and updated package materials.

Supported by the latest 9-Series chipset (Z97/H97/B95) motherboards which have started to leak just a few days ago, the new Haswell Refresh processors would be available as early as April 2014. The K-Series Haswell Refresh series would arrive a bit later in Mid 2014 so we can expect launch in June or July 2014 timeframe. The 9-Series motherboards would feature superficial changes since they come with almost the same feature set as 8-Series except they add support for M.2 interface and a few other vendor exclusive tech

I was just about to upgrade, but after this bit of news I'll wait for the rehash i7 4790k releasing this June.

Me too! I have always been disappointed with the temps of my 3770K even under decent water cooling.

Lets hope intel have sorted this out with the 4790K.

If they have it will be on my shopping list.

Matt

Would be tempting to switch sides if the Z97 supports broadwell, like x99 is going to. that way, only have to invest in the mobo once

I'm usually fast and loose with making a prediction, but I would not under any circumstance buy into Z97 for Broadwell. Broadwell may very well come to socket 1150 on Z97, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

I'll keep my Z87 board, maybe buy the i7 refresh (I can off my i7 easily in another build, it clocks fairly well) if it's proven clocking better.

Well I've finally come into some money so I will be able to do a full build, been needing it for so long still on AMD X2 4400 and its struggled for quite some time so think I will leave it till June save the 2k and then upgrade then. Knowing my luck head gasket will pop and bang goes some saving lol

Yeah had my X2 over 5 years now. lol if I remember the date I really should have slapped myself for not upgrading sooner. So chuffed when I built it. Now I look at it under the desk like a distant uncle who I don't like to see often
