Intel Haswell Refresh Processors Codenamed Devil’s Canyon – Launching in Mid 2014 With Unlocked Desi

would be a downer, hence ill hold onto the old chip for a few days. The move hasn't cost me much, William hill paid for it.:D

:D
Well i've got 2 chips coming, so hopefully i strike gold on either of those. Someone will get a cheap chip on the MM after that ;)

I bet on only the Posh, and small amounts. Had a tenner in my sky bet account the start of the season and have 37 currently, so not enough for anything :D Hopefully England win tonight, might get a whole £9 if they do!! :D

You're setting the bar low for benchmarking lol, 100mhz increase! :(
I want a minimum of 5Ghz for benchmarks, will be selling the chips that dont do that on the MM.

Be a right downer if i actually end up with a downgrade from my 4770k after all this.

Haha, to be honest I'll be happy if it just runs stock speed 4.0Ghz > 4.4Ghz turbo at a decent temp :D

Obviously I'll try and aim higher for benching but would be happy with 4.5Ghz+.

I've been trying to find out about if my MSI Z87 G45 gaming motherboard needs a bio's update,

The site that was linked here, ie the Intel ark compatibility tool site has removed every z87 board from there list of compatibles (mine was on there a few days ago) and MSI's list does not include the 4790k, It has all the other refreshes but not the K's. It better bloomin work.

Pretty impressed so far.

Out of the box @ stock setting this chip is very fast, like very fast..

Quick OC to 4.5Ghz @ 1.28v and 290X @ 1200 / 1350 and it flies !

Max temp for 4.5Ghz were 68c, (Antec Kuhler 920 high fan speed)
Could see this being my 24/7 setting tbh with silent fan speed.

Would like to push further for benching though. Will try for 4.6Ghz next.

So I replaced my 4770k with the 4790k and guess what, The PC won't boot so the MSI Z87 - G45 is not compatible With Devils Canyon at the moment, Thank's for telling me it was Intel. It just cost 300 pounds of what I'd saved towards a new monitor to get a new board and OS. I went for the Asus Hero this time and from Win 7 pro to 8.1 pro, I ordered it for tomorrow so I'll post some comparison benchmarks then for anyone who's interested.

Quick question:
I just put my 4770k back with different paste under a H100 All-in-one. It is not overclocked and I just ran Prime 95 for 48 minutes and my max temp's varied from 73 to 79 degrees. Does that sound about right?

The G45 should work with the 4790K did you use the latest bios ? 1.7 and above supports Haswell refresh cpu's.

I did, I updated from 1.5 to 1.7 just in-case but it didn't work. On the MSI site the list of compatible refresh chips does not include the k's. I've since had a reply from MSI support confirming this.

This was there reply:

Thanks for contacting MSI technical support.

Regarding your concern,we have check the Test Report of this motherboard,we are really sorry,we have not test this 4790k CPU,so we can not provide you the accurate support information, please refer to the CPU Support at MSI Website, sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks for your cooperation in advance!

When you follow the link they gave me it's to the list I had already checked that does not include the K's. Maybe they will provide support for it at some point.

msi will probably bring out a bios to support it,it should do every other manufacturer's z87 boards do

did you also clear cmos before putting in the 4790k? might help
