***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Ahh, 1.35 max. Sounds ok then. And thanks for the tip on voltage on first boot 8 Pack.

Any recomendations guys on what's the best conventional thermal paste theese days? Not gonna bother with liquid metal on this one. 4770k looks a bit messy and will need a good clean after using ultra on it.

I asked this in a different thread not long ago and Collobatory was mentioned but that's liquid metal, MX4 was also mentioned which is a paste.

Goodbye warranty
Apologies for the blood at the top of the picture, it put up a fight.

Congrats on delidding :) was waiting for some one to delid

Got myself a GENE board and some new ram coming as well now :)
At least i wont have to mess about constantly swapping chips for my CPU test :D

Really want my Pentium to do 5Ghz, just something about that number.

Noob of the day here but how do I change voltage as seem mine cpu vcore auto at 1.435v =/ .using Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel Z97 .turbo ratio auto at 44 non is 40.

So no window on system yet as seem window 8.1 I got from here was a OEM and saddly disk a dud but download a flash drive version :) as we speak.

At least i wasn't the only one with silly volts for stock :D
If it's like my motherboard then hit F2 to go to normal bios screen and under the M.I.T screen should be an option to change/control the voltages. Advanced voltage iirc.

1.35 is tops on ambient I would say. Uprated VRM and slightly better temps. Then again your below TJ max temps are not that much of an issue as people harp on about.

Be aware some boards are overvolting these after Bios reset on first boot so I would set voltages manually.

To get off the black residue when delidding I use knife. Easy job.

My quest for golden 4790K starts tomorrow. I am not holding my breath.

Great Pentium Anniversary would be fun too.

4790K OEM delivery tomorrow I assume then? Goodluck with the binning, hope you find a golden one.

Anyone buying a 4790k OEM in the next few weeks, hope you don't get one of the rejects from this mass binning :P

They have kind of, in that most 4770ks people were buying recently have been strugglingto get past 4.3Ghz and these are reaching more like 4.6-4.7 without much trouble?

Sales of the 4770k's have been slow - this much we know. Intel did exactly the same thing with Sandy Bridge before releasing the 2700k - in the months leading up to it being released, they binned all the 2600k's they could that were easily hitting 5Ghz, then released them as 2700k's - this is exactly what you're getting with 4790k's - binned 4770 dies.

EDIT: 4790k's ;)

I wished intel would release binned cpu's that will deffo go over 5ghz at low volts.

Or even if overclockers tested oem cpu for golden ones

I would pay an extra £100 over retail price knowing that the chip im buying will hit 5ghz easy at low volts

As would I, instead of buying 3 or 4 and returning/selling them.
