***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

5 passes of the benchmark yes. I've ran this and played a load of games and haven't ran into any problems in I've 3 months. Currently at 4.7ghz on 1.300v, (might run on lower voltage but tbh I've never tried). Iirc the previous owner had this chip running at 4.9 on 1.35. But 4.7 is plenty for my needs.
 
Not overclocked, shocking tbh. If your brave enough to delid, overclocking is a cake walk.:D

I've never actually overclocked before outside of the onboard auto settings. :o

I'm more than happy to take any advice as I would like to get around 47~4800MHz out of this chip! I can't seem to find any relevant settings though to try out with this chip and the MSI gaming 5 board I use with it.

I'm all eyes for help and suggestions. :p
 
I'm just dipping my toe in the water here with some adjustments to the multi and voltage. These numbers look okay? The vid especially?

So guys, I just finished my testing.

The results are quite impressive :)
4.8G_1.22v
4.9G_1.29v
5.0G_1.415v

Real Bench:benchmark 10x pass + 8h stability test pass.

All on water.
Cpu delided, no IHS used, Coollaboratory Liquid PRO used.

5.0G_1.415v = ~60C in asus real bench H264 bench test.

What's the highest voltage I can safely 24/7 run through this chip? 1.350? Just that when I cross the 1.300 mark the numbers turn red. :P

I'm sitting on 4800 at 1.280 Am I right to be using Override mode instead of Adaptive?


^^^^ That's a hell of a jump just to get on 5GHz.

yeah 5ghz has crazy voltage reqs..

i had to increase vccin to 2.1v too..
4.8-4.9k can do it with 1.95v....

However im looking at it the way that the watercooling is there for a reason....so I can run the cpu with crazy voltage and hit more frequency. Dont rly wanna run watercooling just to "cool" better...It has to bring performance as well.
 
I hit 5GHz myself today prime stable but it needed 1.4038v. That might be a tad too much. Temps stayed under 70 but I don't know if I'm killing the chip with that much going through it?

That's the problem you do not want to kill what is already a good Cpu just to get a little extra.
 
Yeah, I heard that myself. I was just curious to see if others had gotten away with anything else in the medium-term since launch. :P I can get an easy 4800 under that 1.3 voltage! It's just so irritating not being able to hit that 5GHz mark without suicide volts. It's such a nice round number. :)
 
well i believe that with some proper temps u can put it under 1.4v easy. if 1.3v(1.35v) is max for aircooling ..then for watercooling(not aio lol) the voltage must be higher cuz ur temps are lower.

same logic as for ln2.. :)
 
Well, temps aren't an issue. I'm not going any higher than 70 in Prime at 5GHz and mid 50's for gaming. I read that just putting that sort of voltage through the chip causes serious degradation?

The 1.35 figure is the one that seems to pop up the most. On previous haswell chips 1.3 was the max mentioned. DC features better power power delivery, ultimately any level of overvoltage will degrade a chip, you might not experience it for the time you own that particular cpu. Max reccomendatiins are mostly guidelines. No matter what the cooling, high voltage will do damage buy how long it takes to show is anyone's guess. I can remember seeing many 45nm s775 quad cpu's being killed not by high vcore but high vtt.
