Intel prices cuts to come.

Yeah, anyone know when Q2 actually kicks in, cause I'm looking for an upgrade in the next few weeks or so, and can't really wait 2 months or so for these chips?

I'm in the same boat as you. No real urge yet though, will wait a month or so if necessary.

Source? Cos to me Q2 means April-June which means we could see these prices coming into place in late June...which makes it pointless since its quite far off.

Q6600 would be ideal but again just too far off, and proberly still come to £350+ after the price cuts!

sorry - i read on some sites a couple of days ago - well thats when some of these new CPU's are coming out - im not 100% sure

wikipedia 'Price cuts are expected on April 22, 2007, when the E4400 is released at $133 and the E4300 drops to $113. Allendale processors with half their L2 cache disabled are to be released in mid-June 2007 under the Pentium E2000 model name.'

thx does look a lot better and now it makes it even harder to upgrade I dont fancy waiting another 6 weeks just to wait for intel to drop the price on the Q6600 !

Been looking around at some prices etc. What I have come up with. All Q3 stuff by the way, cos its around my birthday.

Currently

Core 2 Duo e6400 = $222.00 USD (from well known US site) Which is around £113 using XE currency convertor.

Core 2 Duo e6400 = £146.86 inc VAT from OcUK

Soon

So if the E6850 and Q6600 are $266 USD (~£135 using XE convertor) we should be looking at those chips for less than £200. :D

Since a $222.00 USD chip is £145. :)

Both Q6600 and E6850 looks like a bargin, unless Intel are getting scared of AMD and Barcelona, thats why they are dropping prices.

Plus this means Penryn prices should be pretty cheap aswell. :)

xbitlabs have just released an article about the new intel cpu's coming out here

The oc value for the 6320 isn't great, but as mentioned, it could have been down to the motherboard, not the cpu. But look at the results for the 6420...3.7ghz using a zalman 9700. Not bad at all. A lot of people were expecting the 6x20 to oc less than the the 6x00 series due to the raise in cache, and due to weaker chips, but looking at the 6420 results, we can expect more if anything!!! I know the 6320 results aren't that encouraging, but 470FSB from a p5n-e could just be the limit from the motherboard.

This confirms my decision...wait a month and enjoy the price cuts :D. The difference in performance between the 6x20 and 6x00 seems to be bigger than expected as well, especially in games and office apps. 10% increaase can't be ignored.

Dont forget that if you do buy from the states you have to pay a customs charge when you get it shipped over, so basically you need to add another £30 to those prices

Are these prices for the consumer or the retailer?

Im still stuck on a p4 with a eVGA 680i, 8800GTX and 2gb PC8000 ram. I wonder what is going to bottleneck it :p

Come on price cuts....

Before I looked at the prove cuts, I've looked at the prices of flights to Gibraltar, they're about £50, but you save at least £100 off the flights.

I'm betting Intel decided that they need to cut their prices for April 22nd because of Fears of Barcelona (which is apparantly due shortly after), and I'm hoping that Barcelona is as good as people hear. Anyone more details about the chip?

Couldnt wait, ordered ;)

I hope they dont cut prices on the Q6600 cos thats what I ordered gonna be painful to see if it is cut.

Barcelona aint due till July, and the Desktop versions are due September.... apparantly thats when the major price cuts will happen just before.

But theres quite a few reports saying April 22nd which makes no sense cos nothing else is coming around that time.... but will see.

This is all speculation, and I've heard of nothing official (yet), but the first of the Barcelonas are apparantly due in May and theres been quite a few places saying the cuts are on the 22nd of April, both of these seem to make some sense, I think that Intel feel the need to drop their prices to compete with Barcelona.

I'd love for someone to review a Barcelona about now.

I dug this up from the inquirer, thought it might be of some interest to someone :),

the e4400 would be ideal for someone like me on a 945 chipset!

Since my FSB is limited to 350, after that one Hard Drive locks out and after a bit more the next one does too, its kinda ideal as a replacement to my e6300!

*EDIT* had a look at the review on it and it seems it tops out @ around the 3.25Ghz mark which is pretty disappointing in all honesty!

3.25ghz is disappointing?

Its still way better than what i can achieve on my e6300 thats for sure....but....I would have liked it to go a wee bit higher! Then again not all batches are the same and so on so hopefully better performance will be there when they hit the shelves!

Not at all. At least not at this early stage.

Intel are cutting prices because their Pentium 4 stock is running low and they need to keep the low-end market (which is where they shift the most units, by far) running. Hence they're bringing Core 2 to the low-end market...

Reports are very conflicting cos in my previous "intel to cut prices" it showed websites saying its due Q2 but theres many others stating Q3 and just before Barcelona appears, now AMD and other sites been saying June/July for the workstation versions and September for the Desktops....

Q3 is July-September ie when Barcelonas considered to be released....

So dont quite hold your hopes on a price cut, if anything the Q6600 might be £330-350 as sugested ;) maybe I lost £200 from not waiting but tis nothing when Ive made a grand selling my old pc off :)

This is the big problem with pc's (and the only thing I hate about upgrading), you're PC becomes obsolete as soon as you buy it, my Monitor and GPU are prime examples, £280 each (20.1" Tft + 7800GTX) 6 months later, both less than £200.

I know I'm going to get stung with the drop in CPU prices when they drop again, but its bloody good fun having something so good.

Ditto :)

tbh I have waited and waited so long for companies like ATI and there R600 and Intel and there Price cuts.... just thought sod it in end cos u can never be 100% of the facts and even when people buy those cheap Quad cores at £350 2 months later the K10 quad cores which are 40% faster arrive....

I tend to upgrade in such ways Ill be future proof for 2-3 years anyhow.... but given half the chance ill proberly end up getting a new pc in 6 months time lol
