cobxx said:The E6420 looks like a right bargain, considering it's going to be just over £100 + vat. These chips could quite possibly just be fully functioning E6700's (of course with the working 4mb cache), as I'm guessing intel are much more efficiently manufacturing them now. If this is the case, 3.6ghz with 4mb cache for £100 is pretty decent![]()
Yep they look pick of the bunch, 4meg cache and a fairly reasonable stock speed (2.13ghz), I'd imagine they'll come in at around £130 or in other words a good £50+ cheaper than the current cheapest 4meg cache chip.
Will be interesting to see how well the Conroe-L chips clock. I don't know enough about the technology to say if I'm talking crap or not, but is it possible that these single core 1mb conroe chips could actually be from 'failed' dual core 2mb batches? Or in other words could a E1020 costing £50 or less actually be a E4400 which didn't made the grade as a dualie? I.e. it's got one core disabled/removed but actually has LOADS of overclocking headroom.
edit: I wouldn't mind moving to conroe as I think they are fantastic chips, but as of yet I've not really been able to justify the expense of replacing my RAM and mobo as well. What I'd like to see would be Conroe+mobo+2gig DDR2 for around £250, which I'm hoping might be feasible by Christmas.
