Intel prices cuts to come.

Looks like i'll hold off building a new pc untill Q3 this year, me wants the Q6600 :)

Vista SP1 should be released around that time as well if you're feeling brave. ;)

Sounds about the right time for AMD s939/AGP system owners to replace their machines.

Just moved to Vista Ultimate X86 and no other new OS has been so stable and well supported from new imo. :p I know you were semi-joking but it's a point I wanted to make :).

You're very lucky if it's all working for you. It's getting better every day, but just imagine you'd shelled out for an X-Fi Extreme and and a couple of 8800GT-whatevers and there were no SLi drivers and the sound didn't work. Most of your favourite games refused to play and pretty much every high-end device attached to the board was running beta-drivers?

Now, I can smile because I've got XP machines heer as well as Vista, but I would think if I was a hard-core gamer I'd be REALLY unhappy!

As I say, I'm glad it's working for you.

Your sig says X-Fi Extreme Music - what drivers are you running? Do you have EAX enabled?

That inquirer article hinted of many cpus even the E6600 but not the quad cores.... I dont see any need to drop the price of the quad cores just yet the normal ones and E6600 yeah...

Either way good for consumers...

AMD comes out with a quad... thats a good reason. And from what I think (and Intel I guess) is that barcelona is imposible to be over lets say 50% better. So a sane person (like me) will buy accorsing to price/performance ratio :)

That E6850 is looking VERY nice. 3Ghz guaranteed straight out the box for about £250 ($266) (once pricey britain comes to play). If it can do that at stock, I'd like to see it overclock, and that stock clock is pretty damned impressive too.

Might be a chip to upgrade for that one!

I hope they do drop the prices, if not, I'm going to wait for Barcelona =D and grab a real quaddie

Sorry to hog here, I've just noticed this on that article...
"Meanwhile the absurdity of Intel's re-branding will come with the addition of an Intel Core 2 Quad processor 3 Series chipset to support the Intel Core 2 Quad processor..."

What is the 3 Series Chipset? I think Intel's got something up its sleeve :D

Looking to Upgrade as well ..was going to go for e6600 dual but if the price drops are as shown I will go for the quad core . ....any word from OC about this price drop or don't they comment on things like that

I appreciate the point you're trying to make, and the answer is I'm running whatever the Vista auto-update function downloaded for X-Fi. I don't believe EAX is enabled, but I don't think it's fair to compare XP when it was first released and everyone was on 98 / ME to this, in that when XP was released there were iirc far more driver & incompatibility problems that there current are with Vista despite the fact that 98 --> XP was arguably less of a jump than XP --> Vista.

Anyway having used it for a couple more days since that last post I'd like to reinforce that my experience has been a very positive one. Things seem faster, Office and the internet run superbly, and it looks a whole lot better too (imo!).

EDIT: it seems that there is some kind of EAX functionality with the current MS X-Fi drivers:

I thought Q3 started in October??? Or am I being too "financial"?

In my world Q1 just started...

I'm going off what I've read at this point, Intel apparantly have two sets of price cuts in 2007, one in October (or somewhere around there) and another in April. Although between these dates lye the release of AMD's barcelona, either Intel's reducing the prices to kick AMD while its down, or the first true quaddie on the market does infact rock socks.

You live in the UK - q3 for Intel (US)(dependant on state) (nov been q1 I believe) starts in april

i get my student loan on the 23rd of this month and im planning on blowing it all :P when can we realistically expect some price drops in the obnline shops? im after a e6300 to tide me over till the quadcores can be swapped for a 20p mix up!

Dont forget that if you do buy from the states you have to pay a customs charge when you get it shipped over, so basically you need to add another £30 to those prices

Or more. You get charged import duty on the item and postage costs and then VAT on top of all 3, plus the delivery company will bill you up to £15 to calculate and collect the tax.

e.g.

Item $100 (approx £54)
P&P $20

Import duty 10% (guess) of $120 = $12
VAT 17.5% on $132 ($120 + $12) = $23.1

Cost after tax = $155.1 (approx £84)
Plus £15 to delivery comopany to calculate and collect tax

Total cost = £97.

You can usually buy cheaper in the UK, than paying all taxes and costs from the USA.
