Intel Q3 price drops.

I've got my eye on a Q9550 after the prices drop! I'm hoping for 4.0+... with a P45 mobo, many people are hitting 3.6+ using a Q9450 (8x multi), so I'm hoping for the same FSB speeds but x8.5.

Best of luck I read all last night on them, and they aint good at OC'ing, the Extreme do though and the input is to wait on a newer stepping soonish when 1 of them becomes end of line (bottom one).

If I thought I could get 4GB out a new 12MB Quad I would buy it now.

Have you been reading about the Q9x50 range in general or specifcally the Q9550... I haven't been abe to find much about the Q9550

Would go for the Q9550....it will end up at a really good price with the upcoming Intel price drop, have decided to go for that myself from my Q6600...
Hey jbloggs. Yes I'm tending more towards the Q9550. It is expensive now but when the Q3 price cuts take effect it'll be a nice buy. The only reason I can think of to get a dual core chip is to save a bit of money. But imho I'd save money in the long run with a quad core.

Course just as I've decided on my processor my mobo plans are up in the air. With the 4870s out I'm wondering if getting two in Crossfire would be a good plan or not. So means I'd need an X38 or X48 mobo I think?

I'm kind of planning a monitor upgrade as well. Probably not at the same time as my new PC but sometime after. Thinking of getting a Dell 24 inch 1900x1200 monitor so I can watch 1080 HD stuff. :) So I'd be gaming at 1900x1200 and I think Crossfired 4870s would be a good bet for that. Perhaps you could advise me on MSN sometime? :)

If you are waiting for the Q9550 to drop in price, then the 4870x2 should be out by then... better to get this than two separate 4870 boards... also means that you only need one PCI slot... P45 board... Asus P5Q easy winner :)

TBh the price difference between a p45 and a x38 isn't next to nothing.
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 £153 :D

Like the 9800 GTX2..
That response would depend on me knowing what a 9800 GTX2 was. ;) And I don't. :p

2x4870 chips on one gfx card.. It should be sweet...
Does sound rather spiffy what what. :D So would a 4870x2 be a cheaper buy than two Crossfired 4870s?

- 1 x External SATA 3Gb/s port (SATA On-the-Go) - on the p5q deluxe.
Cheers. Any reason you mention the £130 mobo when the £104 Asus P5Q-E also has that? Is the Deluxe mobo deffo worth the extra £25 or so?

Yeah I didn't see it on the cheaper boards.. Obviously need glasses.

Yes I expect the 4870x2 to be slightly cheaper than 2 x 4870's

As for the mobo you can get an asus x38 for £150 so I would go that over the p45's. if you can afford the extra £30

Yeah I wasn't expecting it to be majorly cheaper but cheaper nonetheless. :)

So x38 > P45? Any major reason why? The extra £30 won't be a problem. :)
