Intel Q3 price drops.

July = Q3, I hope it's sooner rather than later, I might just buy a second hand E2180 to tie me over if the price drops dont happen within the next 3 weeks.
Still no real decent info on oc'ing the Q9550, though I did find this...

Q9550 @ 4GHZ (8.5 x 471) - Click Me
Yeah trouble with that is it's just a screenie, probally crash soon as load a game who knows, thats the trouble with most people on xtreme not many of them post 8 hour prime or OCCT shots.

All they care about is "whoo!! look at my overclock, look at my fsb" lol :)

There is also a screenie of 24 loops of Hyper pi, but that's hardly proof of proper stability... if I fnid anything better, I'll post here.

What I'm wondering about is the following, is it WORTH going from lets say a E2xxx/E4xxx/E6xxx (overclocked) to one of these chips NOW when Nehalem is pretty close, specially when I read that these aren't really good overclockers? Got my E4400 @ 3.33Ghz now and tbh I'm not facing any kind of performance setbacks or issue's.

Yes I seen it too, 4GHZ is nice but would love to see higher FSB, there is said to be a wall.

There is a wall at just over 500mhz. But to get there needs too much VTT for a 45nm chip. 485-490mhz can be run with the VTT on the recommended limit (1.45v), so the Q9550 should be able to run 24/7 at ~4.1ghz in the right hands.

Depends a lot on the motherboard. My P5Q Deluxe can do 500x8 with high VTT -

It Folds 24/7 at 488x8 and sensible VTT.

I assumed the peeps on XS were saying the CPU had a wall not the Mobo.

Only ones I seen that impressed me were Extreme versions.

I think it's a mixture of both. P35 can't do over 480mhz stable, most X38 boards hit the wall at 440mhz(!), and X48 can get close to 500mhz. P45 seems to offer a little more.

And yeah the QX's seem to be better chips, needing less vcore to run at 4ghz than the Q9450 and Q9550. But then you pay for that privilege.

Being realistic, I'm hoping for 475 FSB (I'm going to get an Asus P5Q Deluxe).

475x8 = 3800
475 x 8.5 = 4037.5

So I'm hoping that getting a Q9550 over a Q9450 is the difference between being below 4GHz or over.

Now the thing is... Shell out for a 9550 and Striker II now or wait 3-6+ months for Nehalem... Though if I do wait I'll probably just find Nehalem to be prohibitly priced at launch and for the next 3-6 months so it looks like 9550 is the way to go :D

btu really woudl you ntoice the difference of 200mhz?
