@gavinh87 how come your opting for the 8700k and not the 7740x?
Just for the extra cores really, buying a quad core now is madness. I could go 7800x but the mesh actually hurts its performance in games and the 8700k would be better in this area.

That's what I was thinking it makes sense to give a little bit of headroom even though the 7740x is probably the better single threaded option.Just for the extra cores really, buying a quad core now is madness. Agreed. Look forward to seeing your findings when you finally get one. After seeing how modern games are hurting quads now a 7740x would only make sense in older titles. Or for that e-peen.
That screenshot was to show I had the hardware I said I had. I am not a liar.
Yes, I never tested them on 3dmark together. The 970 got benched in all 3 machines as I was troubleshooting a coilwhine issue I had with it. It was just easier to swap out the cards instead of PSUs
Ironically I also did the same with the 1070 but not on 3dmark as I found heaven was better for introducing coilwhine. I don't have any screenshots or proof of that so I must be lying there.
The 4690k @ 4.5ghz is undoubtedly faster than the ryzen 1700 in insurgency. Despite what your friend may tell you.
The ryzen may well be smoother, I've not tested frametimes on the 4690k and I no longer have that system.
So why offer up that proof if you don't have it?
You're contradicting what is clear as daylight in my Video, by doing so you are effectively saying i faked it, so i asked you to at least prove that you had the same CPU and GPU as me, you couldn't even do that, instead you posted a screen shot of a 4690K with a GTX 970 and then say "oh i didn't test them, but i did have them, i'm not a liar" seriously????? chocolate around face had in cookie jar "no honest"
Well... what you posted is not proof, you do not have the proof you said you did.
You're being ridiculous, over what? i know you're trying very hard but very badly to discredit a video i posted, like wow in its self, but why? you know its not fake, you didn't even have a GTX 1070 and a 4690K at the same time for you to run that system (coincidentally) to give yourself provenance to call the video fake, a Provence you have not established.
Its completely Bizarre, why do you do it?
Is it just that you say one thing and then you think you can't go back on that thing so i'll try to justify it with another thing but that thing has now escalated the first thing so now i have to find a way out of that now too this might do it oh no thats made it worse and i can't remember what this way all about so i'll just keep saying the same thing overt and over....... BREAVE
Its like...
Hardware enthusiast: "Hello Intel, why only 4 cores in the last decade?"
Intel: "you only need 4 cores"
Hardware enthusiast: "oh, oh ok, that makes sense"
Another Hardware enthusiast: "4 cores are not and have not been enough for games for X and Y reasons, here is my proof and illustration as to why i think this"
Hardware enthusiast: FAKE!!!!! FAKE!!!! you only need 4 cores, i can prove it, thats wrong, i know stuff.. this engine that engine... i have done the same thing and its not true and i can prove it but not you just have to believe me cuz i not liar.... STOP, please just stop.
Even now it still goes on with the 4 core arguments, with Intel launching a 6 core of their own in the mainstream, wow, just wow.
OK pal, you know the hardware I have owned and what I have paired them with........
I have showed you all I have, which is proof of ownership of both a 4690k and a ryzen 1700. You can take my word on this or go and and actually buy a 1700 and see how you get on there.
I am not trying to discredit your video, at what point did I say anything about your video? Although looking at other videos on youtube their CPU usage was much lower even with the same or greater GPU so your recording software must have been causing that CPU to be pegged.
I'm saying that ryzen is not faster than a 4690k in older games like insurgency, it just isn't. In fact in some games its slower than a 2500k. Though I would bet that ryzen would be smoother in a lot of games due to the headroom.
Go back and read my post history, I have been saying for a LONG time that quads are dead. This was my main reason for getting a ryzen, it just happens to have very hit and miss performance in games, much like vega.
You know what is funny? You, defending ryzen all the time despite never even owning one.
I attempted to take a video of insurgency myself with rivatuner running but battleye blocks that. However, logitech arx shows my cpu at 20-30%

@humbug you do realize you're literally arguing with multiple people who do have Ryzens, right?
All I'm saying is that you should temper your expectations by quite a lot if you think any of the Ryzens will give you consistently better fps or frametimes than an overclocked i5 from the past couple of years.
Well the IPC's only around Haswell level overall at best, Intel have moved on a bit from then.

Enjoy, today's video also.
Just one more peculiarity to add to a growing list, he will be back at Intel as soon as they launch their 6 core... ^^^^^
Oh joy, more of it.
Is not proof of ownership of the 4690K and 1070 at the same time for to say you have tested Insurgency with the same hardware and found a different result to mine.
Here comes the contraction to that ^^^
Not that i have seen so post the ones you, as you say, have seen, i used ShadowPlay, either that's true and its right or you just made that up, which is it? post the videos...
I did not say I found a result different to yours, I said that ryzen is not faster. I have had both, you have not.
Are you always like this? If something doesn't fit into your way of thinking you ask for proof?
I had a 4690k and a 1070 at the same time, don't want to believe me? Fine. Go buy a 1700 and be disappointed when its no faster than your overclocked 4690k in older engines.
Have a look for the videos yourself, they are there.
Here is another one, BF1. A multicore optimised, CPU demanding game.
A 1700 @3.9 3466CL14 getting beat by a stock 7600k.
Will the i5 be smoother? Nope, but its also not faster.
Enjoy, today's video also.
@humbug you should become a farmer because you're really good at picking cherries.
@Panos that's IPC in 1 workload, you'd need multiple different workloads to properly notice a difference in IPC between two completely different architectures.
Because if you want to also pick cherries, here's a workload that makes use of AVX and you have the 6 core Skylake-X outperform the 16 core Threadripper:
![]()
But does this mean that the 6 core 7800X generally outperforms the 16 core 1950X? No, it just shows 1 scenario.
Hardware.fr actually have a pretty amazing article which compiles CPUs over the years and gives you a good index on how they perform based on their extensive testing:
http://www.hardware.fr/articles/965-3/performances-jeux-3d.html it's in French though, but everything is self explanatory.
I don't see anything wrong with that ^^^ or the point of it?
You said i wouldn't get more constant frame rates, clearly i will after seeing what you just have? you cannot deny that, that as nothing to do with cheese ^^^
Did you watch this or not?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RMbYe4X2LI&feature=youtu.be&t=5m13s
Show me where I said you would not get more consistent frames please.
I actually said ryzen would be smoother, not faster.
Go and take a look at how ryzen against i7 does in games that people actually play, I mean I like crysis as much as the next guy but damn, you like those single player screenshots.
Its hilarious how a guy can tell me about my own hardware without even having one himself.
