As I mainly game at 3440x1440@100hz and 4k/60hz, my i7 5930k is more than good enough and i'm much better off saving money towards Nvidia Volta in 2018.

Tragic, It's been a terrible Year for Intel and Vega.

It only looks attractive because the £250-270 i5-8600K isn't available.Intel are launching a promotion on 6700K and 7700K with two triple AAA titles FREE which goes live very soon, as in about an hours time and with 7700K at £319 is quite attractive.
Don't think your crazy at all, 8350k is showing on par with 7700k at stock (single thread). Question is can you punt it second hand without being too much out of pocket.
This review from LTT shows it performing very simialr to the i7 7700k aswell:The i5 8400 looks really good at £180, 6 cores and it turbos to 4Ghz.
Doesn't say it's delidded on the listing...

So it should get similar speeds to an overclocked R5 1600(X) for a similar price, except it probably has slightly higher IPC in most applications and doesn't have SMT.The i5 8400 looks really good at £180, 6 cores and it turbos to 4Ghz.
i3 8100 too, £110 for a quad that turbos to 3.6Ghz, can see it being great for budget gaming setups.

Been holding off on my build but now its ryzen all the way.. may get a 1700 instead of 1600 and still save a ton of money
