Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

I refreshed at 13:58 and too my surprise they were up.... and sold out :(

Oh well.

Pre-ordered the big upgrade, an 8700k, Asus ROG Maximus and 8Pack ram; looking forward to putting it all together.

I'm actually considering an 8350k as a stop gap, am I crazy?

Makes more sense than going 7700k or 7600k surely? At least there's an upgrade path for more cores.

It's pretty much a 7600k in drag right, but it;s actually cheaper! £169

There's 10+ in stock at OCUK. One thing to bear in mind is I have no rig at the moment.

It's either that or Ryzen 1600x. I want to buy today....

I'm thinking the same thing, plus if you get a nice clocker you might be able to sell it 2nd hand for as much as you bought it for.

And prices across the board...

This is why consoles will always sell in abundance

True, It feel like everyone's taking the opportunity to screw us all over.

Been holding off on my build but now its ryzen all the way.. may get a 1700 instead of 1600 and still save a ton of money

I think I might wait, Wasn't there info on a Ryzen refresh in the first half of 2018 and another after that which will be usable on the same platform as today's Ryzen? With that in mind I might grab the 4ghz Ryzen 6 core and replace just the cpu at some point in the next year or so.

Retard question I know but why is it the higher resolution you go the less FPS increase you get from "high end" CPU's. Looking at benchmark's My 5930k is 1fps on average slower than a 8700k at my 1440p. I believe this is because your becoming GPU limited - but why does it have this massive effect, seems pointless ever upgrading your CPU if you have a decent GPU and game at high resolutions?

Really, what terrible stock levels. Hope situation approves over coming months. Epic launch fail intel. Worried about the red team?

Yeah it's certainly tempting. Plus it might even be fine for gaming at 1440p anyway.

I googled but can't find any reviews though. Would love to see how it compares to the 7700k, I'm cruious whether the ipc performances have negated the hyperthreading in gaming.

Only gaming and would like it to last around 5 years at least.
The AM4 platform (for Ryzen) is seen as much more open than Z370, meaning you can upgrade your CPU more easily in 2-3 years without having to change motherboard. So you could upgrade to Ryzen 2 in a few years if you wanted. With Intel, you can only upgrade to an i5 8600k/i7 8700k in Z370. It's a locked platform in that sense.
