Intel Update: Conroe!

I wonder how many 6600's went to dell and HP, 100,000's no doubt to sit in their warehouses until they are ready to produce their new product lines. How much do OCUK need now? 1000?

I cannot believe HP or Dell would miss 1000 CPU's when they deal in much larger quantities.

I think someone who is sitting on such large quantities of CPU's as dell and HP could better absorb 1-3 weeks wait for an extra 1000 CPU's compared to OCUK who have none.

I cannot believe someone has not said "all these guys want is 1000 CPU's" is it that much to ask?

I have another question for you INTEL Guy. I appreciate you addressing my previous ones.

Question on everyone's mind. What can "we" do to speed things up?

Good point! And remember the OEMs build machines upon receiving orders, so the poor E6600s have to collect even more dust while orders come in! :(

I'm sure it's a customer services issue and not one for the forum.
It was only meant to be abit about my experiences so far i kinda got abit carried away!
I am glad however that I got the rest of my system last week and included a 930 in with it to play around for a week!

I wonder how many people will now be looking at Dell and co's website for C2D's to arrive and getting a basic system just to canibalise the cpu out of it

I have some contacts in HP, and I know a few of reps who get very early news on new skus. Might try and get some gen on the new desktop line. ;)

It's been reported on many sites time and time again that availability of mid range conroes will be very tight probably til the end of the year.
hard to get hold of until the end of the year?
aren't the Kentsfield CPU's due out the end of the year as well? or have i got my facts wrong?
could be interesting come christmas if i'm right.

Not a lot I'm afraid, from start to finish it takes about 20 weeks to produce a cpu. So the quantity available is fixed, all that can be impacted is how that gets allocated, which is is only really affected by me and not greatly i hasten to add.

Excellent point!

Come on Intel Guy (I won't use your real name on here) nab us some of DELL's, HP's or whoevers stock. Like I say we need 1000 units like last week. The likes of DELL will just have them collecting dust. Get us our stock I don't care whether it be OEM or Retail product as you can see OcUK customers are demanding stock! Sort it out m8! :) ;)

Dell arent even advertising C2D systems yet, but im 90% certain that the majority of what they got was OEM 6300, thats most likely to be the best seller, (for them) and thats what we mfr'd first 6600 arent going to be, in comparison, a big seller for them, even so they will still be complaining that they dont have enough 6600's as well.

This is why 6300 OEM will be available sooner than other stuff. i am trying to sort out OEM 6600, but we dont have any due dates yet.

The conroe delay has given me a bit of a dilema..
I sold my kiddys computer to buy the bits for my new computer on the agreement she gets my "old" kit. So Gibbo ain't the only person getting grief right now, try whiney teenager with the, "but you said...." :(

I've ordered the E6400 which hopefully isn't too popular with other people. :)

isnt there any fans/heatsinks that dont require you to take the motherboard out of the case.. and just sorta plug and play?
Yep, the Vapochill Micro fits in the same way as the stock cooler.

given that you say that you dont have any dates what sort of timescale would you expect for them to start apearing in suppliers like ocuk going on past experience? having just ordered a system based on this cpu like many here i'm more than a little pi***d at intel not releasing them at the time they said they would and am seriuosly considering cancelling the system and going back to amd

I'm in the same boat. I've got everything bar the CPU, MB and RAM and the other half needs a computer yesterday.

"Why can't you just buy something else that's in stock and hurry up? Because I can't...I'm locked into a concrete upgrade pact that means C2D or nothing."

I bet you don't though because they're worth waiting for, no matter how angered and fustrated you get.

You wont be waiting till Xmas!!

According to various sites (I cant quote for Intel) Kentsfield is scheduled for Q107 which could be as late as March and this is only in the Extreme Edition Segment!! You can get XE now. A Kentsfield replacement for the 6600, according to the public domain, is not even scheduled, yet so we dont know what will happen.

will there be low end Kentsfield processors, 63's 64 etc?

My comment on due dates is specifically about OEM 6600. I have posted earlier my expectations on retail product. if we can get some OEM, then all the better.

Well then my final question has to be have we proven to you sufficently that we need to get our hands on some OEM's? I believe it would be about 1000 units at last count. Pull in some favours. I'm sure you have some built up ;-)

All eyes are on you sir :-)

Buy a Celeron for £30. Get the PC up and running for her then when the Conroe arrives. Do the swap, and sell the Celeron on ebay..

Loss - maybe 10 -15 pounds

Gain - A happy teenager

Final Question? Dont make commitments!! Haha just kidding, seriously ask all you want.

You never needed to prove your demand, we know how many of you want you C2D's now!! But in terms of setting the right expectation level, dont expect me to have an answer on this soon, it could be up to a week. :(

I don't know whether to swap for the OEM 6300 (is it possible?) or wait?
The 6800 is out of my league. :(
