It seems that the process snobs need not worry. Xe is going to be 7nm.

An article that says it's supposed to be out this year and is making good progress even though it's using 7nm Intel which Intel have delayed to at least 2023.

Test chips and production chips are very different things.

There has already been plenty of talk about outsourcing and recent rumours that Intel is giving up their fabs. If this thing launches this year and uses Intel 7nm and 10nm I'll be straight up shocked.

Also node absolutely matters regardless of performance. If the entire package triples in size because you have to use larger processes then either you also triple the power usage for the same performance level of you drop performance by maybe 50% to hit the same power usage. The idea that process doesn't matter is straight up ridiculous. Nodes are a part of the reason for performance.

There is a reason Intel's upcoming chip that is pushing to have the same or slightly higher single thread performance as AMD will only manage half the cores and is going to get straight up trashed in multithread performance. Node is incredibly important to overall performance.

Believe it when we see it, they said that about 10nm desktop parts like 2 years ago now. Still not seeing them. Node absolutely matters to a roadmap and improvement. Might not matter to you as a gamer but it should as a pc enthusiast as it means improvement

Big leak from Moores Law is dead

This is the engineering card for the top of the line 512EU model.

Details from MLID:

* Architecture is an iteration from the Gen 12 Xe iGPU found in Tiger Lake
* Card has 512 EU at 2.2ghz
* 16gb of GDDR6 on a 256bit bus
* 275w TDP (8 pin + 6 pin)
* Intel is testing the card on both TSMC's 6nm and it's 7nm process (it has yet to decide which one to use for mass production)
* MLID's source says the card is hitting performance numbers between the RTX3070 and RTX3080 in 3D Mark Timespy.
* Intel is spending much time on Drivers, the Drivers at present still have issues that need to be fixed
* "XeSS" is the name for Intel's competitor to DLSS, yes this card supports it
* Launch window is currently Q4 2021
* No pricing has being decided, but Intel wants to be aggressive to gain quick market share
* The architecture is very good at prosumer workloads, can encode 4k HEVC to 4k AV1 at ~200fps
* The successor to this card is already being worked on, its codename is "Elasti" and has a launch window somewhere in 2023

If these details prove to be true then we could be in for a very exciting end to the year.

Would be nice to see something in that "£500-£600" perf range but with 20% off.

Intel have a mountain of cash, would they take a hit on profit of that division for widespread adoption and a larger data pool for working through driver issues...

Please!

Someone, anyone, do something to help prices get back to something palatable!!

I recently looked these up again for any new info, but couldn't find much as most articles were about the Tiger Lake iGPU.

But it looks like they could be coming later this year so its either try to snag a 3080 Ti or wait for these and see.

Long time, no ray racing.

now will intel follow through or will it be a shot lived experiment yet again i wonder. they do seem to be pushing it a bit more than previous trys so lets hope they can actually ship something thats competitive not priced too silly and has a 2nd generation already in development because if not people may just ignore them as a novelty alternative for a year or as a collectors item like the previous ones.

If Intel want to get market share fast they would need to have low prices as its not going to be as fast or stable as the competition. If it's produced in an Intel fab they could have high volume ready for launch and do a special offer to get going but if the fab is outsourced they will only have small amounts just like the others.

Call me cynical but they will probably follow AMD and price them within touching distance of the current Nvidia and AMD offerings. No doubt they've seen the lengths customers will go to shaft themselves price wise and want a piece of that action.
