Interesting fact regarding the Audi RS cars

I'd disagree with edged it slightly...

0-60

Alfa 7.2
S3 5.6
130i 6.1
MPS 6.1

0-100

Alfa 19.1
S3 13.6
130i 15.3
MPS 14.3

Looking through the ingear times they are closer, with the MPS equalling or just beating the S3 much of the time, but that doesn't include through gear acceleration...

Hi there

0-100mph is where its at and the S3 is certainly no slouch from those results and then the fact extracting more power is not too expensive certainly makes them quite rapid, especially for the class of car they are (hot hatch).

I remember a time where hot hatches were all sub 150BHP or there abouts and the sports and super cars with generally a lot more. Wheras now it seems the hot hatches are closing onto a lot of the Sports cars, the bracket just keeps going higher and higher.

About 5 years ago to have 300+ BHP was considered really quick, wheras now 400BHP is getting the norm with 500BHP and 600BHP been considered the more powerful cars. Its all good though! :)

I really like the of what the RS5 could be, just a shame its not available yet, but I am gonna have a test drive this weekend in an RS4 just to see what I make of it.

I cant work out what Audi are doing with the RS6 as they are due to release it at the end of this year or the beginning of next. It will no doubt have some form of the V10 engine in it like the S6 but and its a pretty big but they are bringing a whole new model of A6 out this year(A6 Avant is released next year).

That will be far too new for them to have tweeked it to an RS model(RSs normally appear anything up to 5yrs after the base model). So if you buy an RS6 you will be buying an out of date style of vehicle. I know its still an RS but it will have the old interior design and floorpan layout still.

Don't forget they did just this with the previous RS6 - introduced it towards the end of the life of the previous model A6. And where have you heard that an all new A6 is due this year? I'm not doubting you but if its true I'm VERY suprised - the new A6 is not even 3 years old yet, is it? Surely it's a year or two off its mid-life refresh let alone an entire replacement?

Don't be so sure. A 2002 RS6 will set you back at least £25k. I don't call that a bargain.

i do if you're trying to come up with something offering similar performance and practicality. the upcoming model with somewhere approaching 600bhp is never going to be a cheap used car, but for what it offers it'll be a bargain...relatively speaking.

Maybe it will still be a 2 door?

I can't see an awful lot of demand for a 2 door estate style car - and Audi's previous usage of the word Sportback has been for a hatch/avant style A3..

i've heard rumours of 580bhp for the RS6.
this power race between the German marques is crazy, but there are going to be some seriously insane used car bargains available in 5 or 6 years time. :D

High running costs......e39 M5's are relatively "cheap" but they are still expensive to run...

edit:/ also I love the RS4, walked past one earlier and it sounds veryyyyy nice.

well we have a long wait for a 500bhp car that's a budget-er to run.
but stack it up beside it's competition performance wise and it'll be a bargain in comparison.

HI there

I thought I'd found my replacement car earlier when I spotted online an MTM supercharged RS4. Had me thinking of another supercharge project. Needless to say when I saw the £14,000 price tag of the MTM kit I soon changed my mind. Am still going to test drive the RS4 this weekend to get my own oppinion of the car as at the moment some people who have driven it really like it and others don't rate it.

Still anyone who wants to hear an RS4 sounding fantastic do a search for MTM RS4 because it sounds great and is damn quick too. :)

There was an article in Evo a couple of months back looking at the running costs of cars run by, I think, the P1 car club. The RS6 costs were eye watering, more than some of the Ferraris and Astons that the club has.

even if that's true, remember the car itself will be significantly cheaper to buy second hand than an Aston or a Ferrari.

Has anyone got the new S3? I went to look at a Q7 last weekend and the S3 looks like immense fun and a lot lighter on the wallet.

Excuse the pic, I still haven't had chance to clean the car and take some decent ones yet (stupid weather).

Mines now got it's first 1000 miles on it so I can open it up a bit more now... Very fast, incredible traction wet or dry, lovely interior, I'm very much taken.

I must get my full review written now it's run in and I can get a proper feel for it..

... and there lies the one flaw in the S3. Very quick, superb inside, supposedly fantastic on the road. But the outside...? I can't get past the current Audi nose. I'm all for family branding, but they could have chosen something other than a gaping mouth!
