Interesting fact regarding the Audi RS cars

... and there lies the one flaw in the S3. Very quick, superb inside, supposedly fantastic on the road. But the outside...? I can't get past the current Audi nose. I'm all for family branding, but they could have chosen something other than a gaping mouth!
It grows on you. When it first appeared on the A3, I had the older model and preferred the nose on that. Between then and now, however, the new style grew on me quite a bit and I now think the older style looks quite dated. Definitely looks better on the S-Lines and S3s though, as the deeper chin seems to "frame" it better.

As for the original point, I had actually heard this but never knew whether it was actually true or not.

BTW, there will never, ever be an RS3, no matter how many rumours there are or how much people may want one. Audi have publicly stated they will never go "below" the RS4 as it would diminish the brand and frankly I agree with them.

The first of those isn't genuine as the front grille is an aftermarket adaptation of the original grille to try and make it look like the new "deep" one. Probably ABT by the looks of it.

The second is a specially prepped racer and looks identical to the one that took part in the Nurburgring 24 hours race.

EDIT:

Trust me, there won't be an RS3.

What on earth were you doing looking at a 3 tonne SUV if a 3 door hatch would be acceptable? :p
I haven't decided what sort of car i want next. I like the Q7 and the Land Rover Discovery, but the S3 looks like a cracking buy.

with 4x4, have you looked at the cayenne turbos they are starting to drop in price and they move like a rocket.

out off all the cars iv had in the last few years the audi's have a lot of small probs, the electrics are a pain the sensors always going off washer pump breaking nothing major but never had probs like this with my Boxster S, Cayenne S or 325ci Sport, but overall the RS4 has been the best drivers car but will be upgrading by the end of the year to maybe a 996 Turbo

btw posted a pair of pics of the RS4

Your RS4 is a better drivers car than a Boxster S?

sorta yes the Boxster S was very fun maybe i would have liked it more if it was a manual, it wasnt really suited to normal day to day driving so when i say drivers car I mean the RS4 has raw power when you need it but is a pleasent drive on london roads Boxster game me back problems.

Boxster is great fun on a Track tho feels like a go cart

Hi there

Since when is a drivers car one that only involves pointing where you want to do and pressing the loud pedal?

When I drove an S4 (V8 model) it had tonns of grip and was reasonably quick. However its steering was vague and lacked feel, the steering was not upto that of the E46 M3 and I don't rate the steering on those either, but the S4 definetely had more grunt than an E46 M3.

For me the Audi has tonns of grip and lots of electric safety systems that make it very easy to cover ground fast and without much effort, thats not really the ingredients to a drivers car. For me if I wanted fun driving I'd take the Boxster S you had, if I wanted to beat other cars on the road and be made to look a driving god I'd take the Audi.

I am test driving a 2007 RS4 this weekend as Audi are willing to offer a very good price on an ex-demo car, around 48k area not sure if its a good price but I am gonna have a blast in it. Its sprint blue so the best colour!
Am then also test driving a Mitsubishi FQ360 MR and a Porsche 911 Turbo (996). :D
Got a fun weekend and on Friday I am doing the VXR day! :D

I wouldnt mind going for a 2007 RS4 avant but they are still holding a high price.

With the Boxster only felt fun when you were going really fast otherwise seemed bulky, its a nice car but for me it felt too much like a 2nd car you would go out on the weekend with, the RS4 on the other had feels responsive at any speed and is much better handling then the S4's (E46 M3's are more fun tho with the SMG II).

btw what are you upgrading from?

Hi there

Current car is a 530BHP Saleen Mustang, 2005 model. Don't think overweight no handling US car because its quite the opposite. Weighs only 1550kg and I've fettled with the suspension etc. and got the steering to be very quick with good feedback and the car handles like its on rails and as such I've been struggling to find a replacement. Still am looking and upto now driven a Z4MC, Z06, C6 Z51, E46 M3 and something I can't remember. Got FQ360, RS4 and 996 TT this weekend and am looking to sort a go in a GT3 as well.

Upto now the C6 Z51 and E46 M3 are off the cards. The M3 was worse in every area over the Mustang, steering, handling, power etc. Obviously interior was better. The C6 Z51 was better in some areas but I still felt like I'd soon get bored with it. Now the Z06 and Z4MC could replace the Mustang, the Z06 was better in everyway accept for the steering and gearbox, everything else and the Z06 was plainly sublime. The Z4MC had all better round handling and steering over the Mustang, but so it should as it uses CSL brakes and suspension with an LSD that lets you have some fun. Z4MC is 10k under my budget which is nice wheras a Z06 is just over my ideal budget but could be in for getting an absolute bargain possibly and if so I will buy one because I will make a profit when I come to sell. Am gonna see how the cars I test drive this weekend fair and also try to get a go in an M3 CSL to see how it compares to the standard M3 because other BMW's owners are assuring me that the CSL is a million times better than the M3.

It has rear seats with special baby seat inserts. ;)

Yes LHD, was my first, took me 2 days to get used to been on that side and judging the car, but took over a month to get used to changing gear with the other hand. However well worth it, as I've not had a more fun, faster car to date but I've built the Mustang into something special making it very unique. :)

sorry but that's like saying "My girlfriend isn't fat. She only weighs 16 stone"

Hi there

Its light in comparison to cars such as RS4, M5, 911 Turbo etc. which are considered sublime even though they way 1700-1850kg.

Its heavy in comparison to cars like most hot hatches, though the Golfs are overweight for the type of car.

Gibbo let us know what you think of the test drives as really want put the money down for 996 seen a 2002 turbo for £46k only got 31k on the clock

Hi there

Thats a good price!

I was looking and spoke to Porsche today and was impressed by the servicing cost, a lot cheaper than BMW which I found surprising and that was 911 Turbo servicing cost too and not just entry level. A lot cheaper than an M car. :)

Is a 911 turbo really that heavy?

Hi there

Ooops forget I'd mentioned the 911 Turbo, but yes the 4WD, Turbo's and creature comforts add weight. They are between 1640-1680kg depending on specification. Not sure if the newer 997 is slightly heavier or lighter, can't remember.
