Interlagos - Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 16/17

cant wait to see the race tomorrow, that was a good final session, really good to see rubens doing well, i think that pole was well deserved, always nice to see a driver doing well infront of their home crowd, really hope he can turn it into a win, i'd like to see it go down to the wire at abu dabhi.

Button just isn't championship worthy in my opinion, and is only where he is because of the huge advantage he had at the start of the season with his car. He has been useless since then whereas Barrichello has been more consistent.

How isn't he worthy. He has the most race wins by some margin. I really don't get why people think otherwise. Imagine if the season had reversed. button does nothing at the start of the season and then wins the last six races, everyone would be going mental saying he was the greatest driver ever.

Why are people here unable to grasp the simple concept that he only has the most wins and points because of the advantage he had at the start of the season with the best car ?

He had the advantage at the start of the season with the best car....
Pretty much all F1 champions have done so with the benefit of the best car, maybe one of Schumacher's and Alonso's was achieved dispute the car, that that's the exception not the rule. With more points and more wins than anyone else it's hard to see how anyone else is more deserving!

What? Of course he had the best car, in F1 the winner is usually the man with the best car - that's how you win championships. First make sure you're in the best car, then beat your team mate.

When Button won 6 of the 7 races and Ruben's won.... none. Doesn't that show Button to be championship worthy?

What if it had been the other way round, Button won nothing for the first 10 races, then won 6 of the last 7. It would go down in F1 history as the most amazing come back and deserving championship win ever!

my point exactly. Just becuase it happened at the start of the season, people seem to think it doesn't count as much

I can see what people are saying but I think in seasons past, there hasn't been the issue surrounding the teams "interpitation of the rules" & Braun (plus one or two other teams) basically had a 6-8 race head start over most due to their slightly illegal (but then deemed legal) rear diffuser. I reckon 9/10 the FIA would have ruled in favor of the opposing teams but because of the amount of mud slung on F1 at the time, the last thing they wanted to do was disqualify Button & Co's race wins & so kept the status quo and let it ride (with the other teams then left to play catch up).

I like Button I really do... but if Barichello didn't have such poor luck in 3/4 of the races this season, he would be at least 20 points in front of Button at the minute and as much as I (nearly) & wanted to believe Button has that "World Champion Quality" as he certainly showed it in the first half of the season. Its quallifying sessions like today and a few races gone by previously. he seems to just blames his setup, tyre temps etc. Yet Barichello still does the necessary at the front end of the grid. I know F1 is about a team effort but bottom line for me is that Schumacher, Alonso, Hamillton etc would be wringing the neck of Buttons car (even if they were not 100% happy) yet Button just doesn't seem capable of getting anything at all unless he is 99%-100% happy with the car & thats not world champion material in my opinion.

As devout a Brit / Englishman as I am & would love for Button to win it, he simply isn't good enough & you only have to look at what Hamilton has done with a truely shocking car this season (won 2 races nearly 3/4)...

.

Barichello has usually been the team mate the sets the car up though. You can't tell me he's not witholding set up info from his team mate. Would make it so much more difficult if you have a crap setup. Regradless of how good the car is.

So true, that's exactly what I have been telling people for weeks

Can we call time on the Does Jenson Deserve It argument? It's become incredibly boring, regardless of whether you think he does or not.

Stunning from Barichello. I really hate to say it but if he wins tomorrow, I think he will come through and take the title in Abu Dhabi. Button is just crumbling - although he's driven ok in the previous few races, it's been a tale of two half seasons, he was in a different league for 6 out of the first 7 races and hasn't looked the same since.

Now the FIA need to step in and put their 'Fair Play Tzar' in the Brawn garage to ensure it's all equal.

Or is that just a disruption reserved purely for McLaren?

He had the advantage at the start of the season with the best car,he hasn't done anything since then. If all the cars were then what they are now then he would be lucky to even be in the top 5 of the championship.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rubens has had the same car as Button hasn't he?

differnet setup, and in this qualifying, he ended up on intermediates whereas Button stayed on hards

It's not over yet for Button or Vettel.
If it's dry and Rubens is locked into a heavy fuel load he'll be struggling to stay ahead.

You need a slap.

I'm afraid that's the bulk of my argument :(.
