Interlagos - Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 16/17

you do realise that it would have been on the iPlayer by the time you posted?

... Triedthat in the first instance. It only played upto the switchover. Was exactly the same length as my recording. Already thought about that ;) hoped they would have put up the second part but it wasn't there late last night.

I'm by no means a massive Button supporter, but why do people even question if he deserves the title? It's all about who is first at the end of the season. If you are 1st, then of course you deserve to win the title. You've got more points than anyone else.

Whoever wins it this season (and in the future) deserves it. It's all about being number 1. Nothing else matters.

even if Button wins, and that's a massive if !

he will only be in the company of "greats" like Jacques Villeneuve and Damon Hill IMO,

in short an average driver in a superior car

I hope Reubens wins the race and the championship

So then we could have another average driver in a superior car winning? Much more deserving eh?

Webber, Barrichello and Sutil! This has first corner crash written all over it! And if its not them it will be Buemi in 5th driving into the corner too fast.
Kimi should come out with a podium position again.

Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve were second only to Schumacher who some(not myself) consider to be one of the greatest. Neither get due credit.

They all only win in a superior car, or with a superior contract over their team mate. It's been like that for almost as long as I can remember now. People like to delude themselves that the best car doesn't always win. If it's reliable enough to score more points than a car thats slightly faster but unreliable it's still the better car over the season.

i hate this type of BS, strategy would have been completely different if it had been the wins per season system. People would have taken risks instead of just sitting behind getting 8/6 points etc.

If you think how dominant most of those wins for JB where , then no this isnt the case - the only win that MIGHT have been different is that Red Bull may have favoured Vettel for Mark Webber's win

(you could also suggest that with the ratio of wins vastly in JB's favour , he would profit from the Brawn 1/2 in Italy)

Hmm... Rubens is not looking so pretty now those fuel weights are in. He'll be lucky to come out in front after the first pit stop and could drop to third.

Odd fuel weights from those McLarens? I'd have thought they'd run heavy. I wonder whether they're anticipating rain (or sun after rain) around lap 24-25.

if a safety car comes out early, running on heavy fuel is wasted. Might as well run light, try and sprint past a few cars and fill up when trouble happens. At least thats the way i look at it.

I like Button I really do... but if Barichello didn't have such poor luck in 3/4 of the races this season, he would be at least 20 points in front of Button at the minute and as much as I (nearly) & wanted to believe Button has that "World Champion Quality" as he certainly showed it in the first half of the season. Its quallifying sessions like today and a few races gone by previously. he seems to just blames his setup, tyre temps etc. Yet Barichello still does the necessary at the front end of the grid. I know F1 is about a team effort but bottom line for me is that Schumacher, Alonso, Hamillton etc would be wringing the neck of Buttons car (even if they were not 100% happy) yet Button just doesn't seem capable of getting anything at all unless he is 99%-100% happy with the car & thats not world champion material in my opinion.

As devout a Brit / Englishman as I am & would love for Button to win it, he simply isn't good enough & you only have to look at what Hamilton has done with a truely shocking car this season (won 2 races nearly 3/4)...

Sorry no reason at all to believe that

Firstly Rubens has lucked into both wins quite considerably (certainly in comparison to Jenson's dominance during all 6 of his wins - before the closing couple of laps just look at far ahead JB was in majority of them 30s+ and thats the next car not even Rubens necessarily)

Then count the unlucky event of Spa when JB was knocked out in the first lap, and in the last two races the sc has hampered his progress over Rubens both times at significant times in the race - previous few laps before sc Jenson was over a 1s a lap faster , catching him hand over fist)

Rubens just hasnt been fast enough all year in the same car on race day - its only his quali which has made it look better than the true picture.

Valencia is the only race where Rubens did a lot better, and that was thanks to Vettel I think forcing JB off the track near the beginning.

I bet button would also like the points he got for the race ending when he was winning and getting half points :D

You bet (all of 6-7 laps too, lol)!!!

Either way the team look like genius' if they get it right and ridiculed if they get it wrong.

Im actually hoping for a RB win wiht Mark Webber - he could be a real handful today, and its possible Kimi could be a handful in the opening laps if he gets a really good start

Depending what the conditions are throughout the race, but hopefully it will be really changable and so teams have to change tactics midway or so to liven the race up

He had the advantage at the start of the season with the best car,he hasn't done anything since then. If all the cars were then what they are now then he would be lucky to even be in the top 5 of the championship.

So did Rubens - but did you see him dominate race after race (even coming in 2nd race after race) ummmmm no

Same goes for Rubens then, if anything it would be Rubens losing out point wise due to first half of the season (where he was 30+ seconds behind JB before Jenson cruised to the finish line)

MS often had advantage at the start of the season - did you hear anyone taking away the effort he put in?.......

Wet or Dry race today?

We always have to have the 'Jenson Doesn't deserve to win the championship' debate in each race thread *sigh*
