Interlagos - Brazilian Grand Prix 2009 - Race 16/17

Superb drive by Button today. Absolutely superb. Aggressive and composed, he fought and fought to make something of a bad hand; today he drove like a World Champion. Now you might say that Lewis or Vettel did better, after all they gained more places - and both of them did drive great races. But whereas Lewis mostly made it on a good strategy call from the Pits, and Vettel was in the fastest car on the grid (as Webber competently showed), Button repeatedly made position on the track. Impressive stuff.

And a great race from Webber; it's good to see on that top step, even if too late for his season. Ditto Kubica, he deserved a better season after the class he showed last year. Good too, from Kobayoshi, even if he perhaps should have been penalised for the incident with Nakajima.

As for Rubens, it's a shame that the puncture robbed him of a good result but even before that he had let the race get away from him. He was quick at stages but lacked the final cutting edge and consistency that might have left with a sniff at the championship. Although, again, he showed what a thoroughly likable chap he is when he paused to applaud Button after the race ended, and what may well be his last chance to be Champion slipped away.

I'm actually slightly dissapointed that i predicted the constructors and world drivers championship correctly after the first 4/5 races :(. Never fun when there is one team thats miles better than everyone else, even it is only for half a season. I thought 2007/2008 was a much more exciting season in many respects.

Brawn have never been miles ahead, RBR have quite clearly been the faster car throughout the season. Brawn didnt even qualify front row at China and Bahrain. (races 3 and 4),
The season was Red Bulls to loose.

What a race that was! Button's drive should surely justify him winning the championship alone, he was by far the most entertaining to watch this race.
I was also impressed with Kobayashi untill he blocked the williams like a pillock. A few manors and he might be a driver to watch in the future, probably the best performance from a rookie driver this year i'd say.

Still waiting for him to eat the hat he promised to :)

Great race and congrats to JB, phone has been going mad with drunk Brawn people phoning :)
Luckily i know a lot of them and will return the call next season hopefully ;)

Well done JB and Brawn, thoroughly deserved.

Well done to you lot for making it a thoroughly thrilling season

Really glad Webber won today, he drove immaculately (and Vettel did also)

Remember the whole double-diffuser saga? I would say that Red Bull were trailing behind Brawn until their major turn around with a 65-part upgrade at Silverstone.

Actually I seem to recall it being Monaco - just didnt suit the circuit that much

RB definitely had the car to have 2nd half of the season though, with McLaren and Ferrari not that far behind on a number of circuits

Raikkonen's comments on the fire incident

"What happened on the first lap ruined my race. First I was hit at the first corner, then when trying to pass Webber, I was hit and lost the front wing. At the pit stop, I ended up with some drops of petrol in my eye, from the fuel line stuck on Kovalainen's car and then I was engulfed in flames and blinded: I was going to stop, but luckily the flames soon went out. Even now, my eyes are still burning, but I'm alright. After the restart, I could only try and use the strategy to move up the order and at least I brought home a few points. I am disappointed because today I'm sure we could have made it to the podium. There is one race to go: let's see what we can do in Abu Dhabi to get back that third place."

Great to see more overtaking today, shows how rubbish half the races have been this season. Makes you wonder if it would actually be good to sod qualifying and shuffle the grid for every race!

Two british champions in a row too, maybe it will be Anthony Davidson next year lol

Well a good race. Enjoyed it, though rain would have made it more fun. :D

I thought I had better give the brawn factory a toot on the horn as I passed it driving back from the folks past the roundabout. I bet the security guard wondered what the hell was going on! lol :D

btw is the f1 forum replay online yet? the silly bbc never have it linked on the f1 website , usually i have to find it with a google search of "bbc f1 forum replay brazil" etc :|

Missed the race but congrats to Button for becoming World champ...preferred if Barrichello would have won it but meh congrats to the fella for winning it...he obviously had the best car at the start of the season so pretty much had a head start on everyone else and by the time Hamilton got competitive it was a little too late.

Oh well bring on the next season and hopefully Hamilton will be back on top altho his old buddy Alonso will be in a Ferrari next yr from what i have read...cant believe that little **** got a drive there but then Ferrari want to be competitive next season i suppose.

yawn. Barrichello?? Red Bull could have won it too, they had the best car for the 2nd part of the season.
Your bias is all too obvious.

We have to give full credit to Brawn. Forget the drivers, its the fact that with your hands untied you can quite literally start a team from scratch, strip a car down to its bare chassis, make it barely ready in time for the first race and win your first championship with it.

If anything, full credit for me goes to Ross Brawn. The guy is an absolute legend

Uh.... apart from the fact the Brawn car was the Honda that was in development for 15 months before the start of the 09 season, and was sat waiting over the winter while they sorted out who would buy the team?

Yes it was the same people who built it who are now Brawn, but if you think they rushed to get a car ready in time, doing all the work when they had been bought, you are very much mistaken.
