Internet Dating.....Who Has Done it?!

Well this is a new one (for me anyway). I was browsing through profiles the other week and this one guy's profile caught my eye AND he was really hot. I presumed I wouldn't have a chance so I continued looking. Suddenly he writes to me (eek!) and we've written about 40 messaged to each other in the last week and a bit.
He asked if I had Skype because he couldn't meet for at least a week (business trip). I didn't want to give him my Skype as I don't like skyping friends let alone someone I don't know.
Anyway...curiosity got the better of me so I asked him if he had Facebook, which he didn't (I'm always wary of people who don't have Facebook, haha!). I then decided I would add him on Skype and he actually had a different pic to the one on OKCupid. The problem is...it looks nothing like him! I think he might have even used a fake on his profile! He even looks to be of a different ethnicity in both pics - what the heck! I'm peed off that he's done this - I was really quite into him, sigh!

Fakes are common. If someone looks a little too good to be true, you need to reverse image search them, which can be done by dragging the pics into google images.

That said, not having a facebook is a silly reason to be weary, imo. I made my first facebook account about 2 months ago because a job required me to make some changes on one, and I didn't know how. Many people are just not really interested in social media and given the quality of the content it's hard to blame them. :P

In fairness I haven't a clue how it works out side of put image in here see what happens, tends to be pretty funny though.

It'll return images with the same size and similar layouts, such as pictures of people faces with similar skin tone / hair. I imagine perfect matches are easy, everything else is hard, so if you want to avoid being found on a revese image search, crop a few lines out of the photo and you'll almost certainly never be matched.

So it actually sounds genuine... she's damn hot too
If this turns out to be like Catfish then I'll be extremely disappoint.

You're ruining the thread without pictures!! :p

When are they coming to sunny Ireland?? Or has it turned out to be a fat man with a need for a passport/fake identity??

Lads for my own amusement I am meeting a girl sunday and I am pretty sure I have found her sister on pof as well, who is fitter and I would rather meet...

Is it bad I secretly want her to bring her sister along for a date improvement?

God its getting worse!

Signed up on Monday, now have 3 dates arranged for over the weekend. The last girl even messaged me asking for a date, so i must be doing something right.

One thing I must ask also, at what point is it correct to stop seeing/chatting to any other girls, as I'm not one to string girls along and wouldn't want to go on other "first dates" when I'm on a 2nd/3rd with another girl.

p.s.... I might have to get OcUK in to help me pick if it comes down to the wire haha!

UPDATE

Now going on just the two dates after I binned #3 off as I didn't feel a spark or anything from her tonight.

Chatted to #1 on the phone and arranged the date for this monday.

Added girl #2 on facebook and WOW shes a stunner and seems really quick with the responding to texts, where as #1 can take a few hours but then sends a massive essay!

Think I need a voting topic haha!

What websites would people recommend? I'm gonna try and get my house mate to sign up as he spends far too much time in his room on the Internet. I've been with my current girlfriend a while and met her at a boxing gym so I have have no experience of Internet dating so not sure which ones to recommend to him. Is POF still the one to go for? He's a bit of a tightwad so a free site would be better!

Lol internet dating what a complete waist of time it is.

Been talking to this lady for a couple of weeks, getting on great ect decided we meet up yesterday, so last week I booked a table for 2 at a restaurant, before setting off phoned her up to tell her i was setting off i'll meet her there, she said ok see you there.

I was sat waiting for nearly an hour looking like a plank, only for her not to show up, wouldn't reply to any text & when i rang her she switched her phone off.

Sent a text this morning saying thanks for waisting my time, hope the next person you decide to meet does same to you aswell. :/

UPDATE to this post

Well decided now internet dating isn't a waist of time :)

I've finally met somebody of POF, that is stunning 35 & no kids.
been on a couple of dates enjoyed each other company, so all going well atm.

What's this "spark" thing? Been on a few dates now ( including more than just 1 date with girls) and keep getting told things along the lines of "no spark/butterflies/red faced" etc even if we are getting on really well and have lots in common etc

I suspect it's just a generic line to get rid of me, but I've no clue what it actually is?

Gets very tiring putting in a load of effort getting to know someone and then being told something like that when you are just starting to get to like them.....

UPDATE TO THIS!

I found out that this guy did indeed have a fake photo on his profile. How dumb can you get?! He was expecting me to meet him thinking he looks like a Middle Eastern model and actor (that's who Google said he was). If I hadn't have added him on Skype I would have met him. Now he's blown it and he keeps writing to me even though I've been ignoring him since I found out. My flatmates found this hilarious though

Basically when you meet someone it's pretty easy to be like a friend where you have a laugh/good time but the spark is the instant click to thinking about being more without really trying.

most of my experiences you can tell after 2 dates if there's a spark and its not really down to effort put in, just how naturally the date goes/easy it is to enjoy each others company. So the tip is to put less effort in and enjoy it/take it easy to see what happens (and not get wound up about it)

Cheers :)

I have been enjoying it / taking it easy. Maybe I worded it a bit wrongly. I meant more it's quite a time /effort sink when you get chatting to someone (online and offline). Calling on information you've touched on previously etc etc and then effectively it all becomes a big waste when there's "no spark". What you're describing is something I'd think would develop after a bit more than a couple of dates. Maybe it's because I've never experienced it that I don't understand.....

Heartening to know I'm not the only one that has been wound up though! Just gets tiresome when it's happened every single time......

Ah that's good, was worried you were one of the people that go and expect everything in one go (seen a few women thinking it is acceptable to demand a relationship in a few messages which is weird).

Best thing I can say is it sounds like you are going about it the right way and keep your chin up as when it happens you'll either know instantly or be pleasantly surprised when you notice :)

interesting turn of events!
girl who ditched our date for a hangover....text me this morning, asking if we could meet today and go do our mini golf date...

i nearly said no, but then i looked out at the weather, and thought "its a nice day, everyone deserves a second chance, i dont want to do nothing today, and i really want some fresh donuts from the golf hut..."

ill check in later, providing she doesn't stand me up.....
